Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an excellent Clarinet and Saxophone teacher to join our busy and thriving Music Department.

Dean Close is a co-educational, day and boarding school, set in a beautiful 50-acre site on the edge of Cheltenham town and currently has 500 pupils between the ages of 13-18. Founded in 1886, the School has a Christian ethos and greatly values its positive environment and good relations between staff and pupils. Situated on the site are the Senior, Preparatory and Pre-Preparatory schools which share many of the excellent facilities on offer, including a £3m Sports Hall, purpose-built Music and Art Schools, water-based astro pitches and a 550-seat professional theatre.

Dean Close Music Department is a warm and vibrant working environment, currently staffed by 25 Visiting Music Teachers and 3 full time academic and choral teachers. The department benefits from dedicated rooms for both academic and individual music tuition, a music technology suite and a 120-seat recital hall. Adjacent is the Bacon Theatre where annual concerts and a bi-annual musical are mounted. Instrumental and choral music is a key focus for the school community and the Music Department mounts in excess of 40 concerts, workshops and events annually. Currently over 25 choirs, orchestras, jazz bands and chamber ensembles rehearse weekly, and there will be scope for the successful applicant to take ensembles and to develop the provision of woodwind playing across the Prep and Senior schools.
