(Full and/or part time)

We are looking to appoint from September 2019 a well-qualified graduate to teach Latin throughout Years 7 to 13, Greek on request and Classical Civilisation at ‘A’ level. The successful candidate will have strong subject knowledge; a passion for Classics; excellent communication skills; the desire to develop as a teacher; the initiative and energy to contribute to a strong Classics department and the wider life of a busy boarding school.

We welcome applications from qualified teachers although the post may also suit a Classics graduate with NQT status. The successful candidate is expected to teach Latin up to A-Level.

Moreton Hall has a thriving Classics department which has been flourishing over a number of years; numbers opting for Latin at GCSE are growing and there has been a consistent take-up at 'A' level every year. Classical Civilisation is a popular 'A' level choice, with modules in Greek and Roman Epic, Greek theatre and love and relationships in the ancient world.

Latin is offered to all pupils from Moreton First (Year 3) upwards. Every effort is made to acquaint pupils with the culture and literature of the ancient world; over the last few years there has been a programme of outside visits to places of interest, such as Chester and – particularly successful - Greece. Visits to the theatre also take place as often as possible. A good proportion of students have gone on to study classics at top universities.

Examination boards:

GCSE OCR Higher level: J281

Latin OCR:  AS H039:  A2 H439

Classical Civilisation AQA: AS 1021. A2 2021

An enthusiasm for the applications of Information Technology within Classics teaching is essential. A passionate and lively approach is important with an awareness of the need to make the subject accessible and enjoyable.

The successful candidate will play a full part in the life of a busy boarding school which prides itself on its considerable cultural and extra-curricular activities. The post could be combined with residential responsibilities. Accommodation may be available.

The application form can be downloaded from the Moreton Hall web site at: www.moretonhallschool.com/Vacancies.
