Job overview

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic ICT and Computer Science teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of the lower school (Years 6 to 8) Computing curriculum, iGCSE ICT (Cambridge International specification), and GCSE Computer Science (OCR specification), with potential future involvement in teaching A-Level Computer Science and/or other post-16 courses. We are looking for an ambitious professional, with a proven track record of raising attainment across GCSE and (ideally) post-16 groups, to join our successful and well-resourced department.

The ICT and Computer Science department at Langley School is equipped with two dedicated suites of desktop PCs, providing access to a wide array of desktop and cloud-based software. In addition, all pupils are provided with Microsoft Surface devices, enabling portable and seamless access to resources outside of school.

Our lower school curriculum aligns with the 'Teach Computing' pathway, offering pupils in Years 6 to 8 a broad range of computing topics and projects. In Year 9, pupils have the option to study ICT and/or Computer Science, which can be pursued through to iGCSE and GCSE respectively.

As a Microsoft School, we educate pupils in the use of the Office 365 suite of products, including Teams and OneNote, which form the core of our learning experiences. We also integrate physical computing into our curriculum, utilising tools like BBC micro:bits and the VEX Robotics platform to foster teamwork, competition, computational thinking, and coding skills.

Our diverse and engaging curriculum has led to a significant increase in the uptake of the subject at Year 9 and above. We are planning to offer A-Level Computer Science and/or other related post-16 study options in the future.

As a Teacher of Computer Science and ICT at Langley School, you will be a reflective practitioner and team player, confident in your subject knowledge and keen to work collaboratively within the department, developing its curriculum to help pupils meet the challenge of examinations as well as foster enjoyment. We value those who are conscientious and passionate, with the desire to impart their love of the subject to their classes and fellow teachers.

The ability to plan and deliver innovative lessons that are suitably differentiated to meet the needs of all pupils and integrate the use of e-learning, is paramount. Our ideal candidate would be willing to take an active role in ensuring the Computer Science and ICT Department maintains its high profile by promoting the subject within the school and wider community and organising and running subject related extra-curricular activities such as trips, speakers and competitions as well as wider school events.

All teachers at the school are form tutors and play an important role in the pastoral life of a thriving independent school.

Langley School is an HMC boarding and day school offering all through education to over 880 pupils aged 6 months to 18 years in Norfolk.

Set within two enviable countryside sites, these stunning green campus locations are a wonderful canvas which allow children space to breathe and grow – with the added advantage of being in close proximity to the vibrant city of Norwich and having nearby transport links to Cambridge, London, and Schiphol Airport (via Norwich Airport).

With an established legacy in providing first class inclusive education, Langley is an innovative, caring and stimulating place to work. It is our ambition to not only build the areas in which our strengths lie, but to lead the way as a forward-thinking and aspirational school.

Langley is a co-educational, inclusive, day and boarding school for ages 6 months to 18 years. We are fortunate to be set within two 100+ acre countryside sites: the Pre-Prep and Prep school are based in Taverham; the Senior and Sixth Form just outside Loddon. These green, stunning campus locations are a wonderful canvas that allows children space to breathe. The warmth and family feel to the school allows pupils to flourish at their own pace, while also being aspirational and forward-looking.

We aim to continue to raise academic standards by focusing on excellence in the quality of education that we provide. We are fully committed to creating the right learning environment – one that celebrates the individual and nurtures their interests.

Our curriculum is supported by the three strands: Creative (music, drama, art and design), Action (sport and outward bounds) and Service (community engagement and charity).  Focussing on Intellectual curiosity (STEM, Creative Arts, Debating, Languages), Community engagement (internal and external), and the Environment (utilising the benefits of the green campus from Forest School in the Prep to the outdoor classroom at the Senior site).

The character of the individual is central to the Langley education. Through the plethora of opportunities on offer, from CCF and sports teams, to UEA masterclasses and music soirées, our fantastic pupils are nurtured to be confident, curious and kind.

There is a full range of day and boarding options, from one night a week to the full experience. This also fits into the triumvirate of school, family and community, as the school week is busy and action packed, and the weekends are free for time in the home environment. There is elite sporting provision with the Langley football academy and the newly created netball academy. The class sizes of 16-18 pupils allow for learning and enrichment, taught by caring subject specialists.
