Job overview

Teacher of Computer Science and IT

Full Time

MPS/UPS

Starting 20 April 2020 or earlier if possible

The Kimberley School is an exciting, oversubscribed and vibrant school with a very successful, high-achieving, sixth form.  The school enjoys superb facilities and, under new leadership and as part of the East Midlands Education Trust, has a very bright future.  We aim to ensure that students achieve outstanding academic exam results and that they have access to a vast range of exciting opportunities outside of the classroom that help prepare them for a successful adult life.

We are determined to take every possible step to ensure that Computer Science is a strong and successful part of our curriculum.  In recent years we have adjusted our Key Stage 3 curriculum so that students have the opportunity to develop Computer Science skills and knowledge.  GCSE Computer Science is a popular course in KS4 with two groups in Year 10 and one in Year 11.  Our long term aim is to be able to offer A-Level Computer Science in our sixth form.  You will be part of the Business and IT Faculty and you will be working with a team of professionals who have an excellent track record of success and focus relentlessly on ensuring that students enjoy learning and make outstanding progress. As part of East Midlands Education Trust you will also be a part of a network of Computer Science teachers across the secondary schools in the Trust.  This will be an opportunity for you to learn from the very best and prepare you for the next stage of your career.

If your experience is predominantly based on teaching IT and you are looking to develop your career into teaching Computer Science, then this may still be the job for you.  We are determined to make this succeed and we will work with you to identify and invest in the professional development that you will need to teach Computer Science.  There may be the possibility of a recruitment and retention allowance for an experienced candidate with a track record of success.

The Kimberley School is part of The East Midlands Education Trust which includes The West Bridgford School, Joseph Whittaker School, The South Wolds Academy and Sixth Form, The Ripley Academy and the John Flamsteed School.   All staff across the Trust enjoy professional development and career opportunities that are not possible in a stand-alone school.

All staff are recruited under our safer recruitment processes, in line with DfE requirements, which includes an enhanced DBS check. We have a suite of safeguarding procedures, policies and guidance for all of our staff and volunteers to ensure we actively promote children and young people's welfare and safety.

We are also committed to equality of opportunity in employment and it is our policy to promote equal opportunities in employment, regardless of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, creed, disability, sex, age, marital status or sexual orientation. This applies to recruitment and selection practices, training, promotion and in the application of national and local agreements in respect of pay and conditions of service.

The application pack includes a job summary, job description and person specification. Applications must be made on an EMET application form which you can download from the East Midlands Education Trust website https://www.emet.academy/vacancies

Please note that CVs will not be accepted.

Values and vision

The Kimberley School focuses on delivering strong academic results. It is a tolerant and welcoming place of learning that promotes traditional values, a sense of belonging and good student behaviour.

There have been a number of developments for school facilities over the years, most notably the introduction of a design and technology building in 2002, and an arts block with drama studio and media studies room in 2005. There are also high-quality facilities for sport, with playing fields, hockey pitches and a large leisure centre on-site.

Ofsted report

“Governors have a good understanding of the school’s performance and they drive improvement by challenging leaders strongly. The quality of teaching is improving because leaders have introduced good strategies to support it. Reading is being promoted well throughout the school [and] students feel safe in school.”
