Job overview

Full Time and/or Part-time

September 2022

Due to an increase in student numbers we’re looking to recruit talented, enthusiastic individuals to contribute to our ongoing success.

At Queen Mary’s College we understand the importance of recruiting skilled and well-qualified staff to maintain excellence in all that we do.  We are committed to high-quality, innovative education and student support services and pride ourselves on our welcoming, supportive and friendly environment.  We never stand still and our best keeps getting better thanks to the dedication, enthusiasm and commitment of our team.

Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally.  Value added data places us in the top 10% of all A- level providers.

The college currently offers an A level in Computer Science (AQA), alongside vocational courses in Computing and I.T. (BTEC Extended Certificates). All courses are managed within the Department of Science. Computer Science, Computing and Information Technology are thriving, popular courses at Queen Mary’s College. The College has a thriving, state of the art esports arena and offers BTEC and enrichment courses in this area.  There is an opportunity to contribute to these courses for suitably experienced and interested candidates.

The number of students opting for these courses has grown considerably over the last few years, currently, approximately 200 students participate in these courses. At present the teaching team for these courses comprises one full-time and two part-time staff. The courses are taught in computer rooms equipped with a number of fully networked high-spec PC based workstations (updated in January 2022 and refreshed every 3 years), running Windows 10, Microsoft Office and all relevant software, as well as peripheral hardware; SMARTboards and projectors etc.

There has long been an understanding in the department that the development of our learners continues outside the classroom. Through the exciting and varied offer of enrichment activities and wider-experiences available, learners in the department get specialist support (Oxbridge/University preparation), interact and learn from professionals in industry (STEM talks programme, mentoring, trips), have opportunities to stretch themselves (Olympiads and other competitions) and can undertake fun and exciting projects (eSports, Robotics, Minecraft, Coding challenges). All these experiences (and many more), make the department an exciting place to study where students gain transferrable skills that increase their chances of succeeding in their chosen career. In short, we aim to ensure that Computer Science and Information Technology continue to flourish and grow at Queen Mary’s College.

Our priorities are to maintain and extend our examination success and to maintain high levels of student satisfaction and achievement.  We seek to ensure that we provide students with a high-quality experience of learning that is innovative, interesting and challenging and helps them acquire the skills and knowledge essential for their progression.  This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher to join our outstanding team and be part of our friendly and supportive environment.
