About Lady Margaret School

Lady Margaret School is a Church of England academy for girls aged 11-18 situated on Parsons Green in West London. Established in September 1917, there are currently 763 girls on roll, of whom 166 are in the Sixth Form. It is an outstandingly successful school in welcoming girls of all academic abilities and ensuring that they achieve their full potential. However, it remains an inclusive school and girls from other faiths or those who have no religious beliefs at all are welcomed.

Our exam results reflect the hard work of our students and staff. In 2023, 92% of our girls attained GCSE English and Mathematics at grades 9-4. At A Level, our results are consistently outstanding, with high numbers of girls progressing to a wide range of Higher Education courses. In 2023 80% of grades were A*-B. Students at LMS have an excellent record of securing places at top universities.

About the Role

We are looking for an inspirational, committed and enthusiastic professional to join our Mathematics and Computer Science Department in September 2024 on a full-time permanent basis. The successful candidate will teach Mathematics at KS3 and KS4 (0.4), and will teach Computer Science to KS3 (0.6). We would welcome applications from Maths teachers who are interested in training to become the Computer Science teacher/lead. The Mathematics Department is made up of keen mathematicians who embrace any opportunity to celebrate the subject both inside and outside of the classroom. The collaborative nature of the team allows for teachers with varying levels of experience to flourish through mutual support and sharing of best practice.

This is also an exciting opportunity to develop Computer Science, which has been delivered as a discrete subject at Key Stage 3 at Lady Margaret School for the last two years. This role encourages students to think in new ways and to be creative. The Subject Lead for Computer Science would teach students in Years 7-9; all classes have one lesson a week dedicated to Computer Science. Across KS3, students learn about Coding, Computer Skills and E-Safety. Assessment objectives relate to (1) the development of knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation; (2) application of the principles and concepts of computer science, including to analyse problems in computational terms, and (3) designing, programming and evaluating computer systems that solve problems.

The successful candidate will have subject knowledge of the subject or a willingness to upskill themselves for this subject. Training is available for a non-specialist, including drawing on expertise from colleagues in the school, and, where helpful, from other schools.

We see Computer Science as a vital way of preparing students for life beyond school, giving them key skills relating to digital literacy and an ability to think creatively within a technology context. Computer Science sits alongside other technologies, Science, Art and Maths as a subject which challenges our students and equips them with the background and tools they need to excel. As a school, we have a strong track record of students pursuing STEM subjects throughout the school and beyond.

About Lady Margaret School

Lady Margaret School is a Church of England academy for girls aged 11-18 situated on Parsons Green in South West London. Established in September 1917, there are currently 763 girls on roll, of whom 166 are in the Sixth Form and 90 teaching and support staff.

It is an outstandingly successful school in welcoming girls of all academic abilities and ensuring that they achieve their full potential. The school seeks to offer a safe, caring and intellectually stimulating environment supported by a strong programme of extra-curricular activities that enables students to go on to lead fulfilled and enriched lives.

Its success is based on a culture of high expectations and aspirations, excellent standards of teaching and a strong commitment to the Christian ethos. However, it remains an inclusive school and girls from other faiths or those who have no religious beliefs at all are welcomed.

Lady Margaret School is a community of great energy and enthusiasm. It is also a community driven by Christian values, and we place great importance on girls behaving with integrity and kindness.

A majority of students stay on in the Sixth Form that has high academic standards. This enables girls to choose undergraduate courses at universities of their choice, including Oxbridge, Imperial and UCL as well as art and music colleges.

As a Church of England academy, we are rooted in our Christian faith, and reaching to everyone. We encourage an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and our Christian values underpin how we work together as a community.

We aim to offer a safe, inclusive, caring and intellectually demanding environment to enable all our students to benefit from an outstanding secondary education.

Our Ethos

The ethos of the school is that of a caring and purposeful Christian community. Each member of the community is made aware of the high standards of behaviour and work which are expected. Staff and students are expected to show kind, respectful and tolerant attitudes to others both inside and outside the classroom. The school rules regarding issues such as uniform and homework are enforced and parents are expected to support the school in these areas.
