Job overview

This appointment comes at a very exciting time in the school’s development, with Dr Anne Cotton joining the school as the new head in September 2022, and with Computer Science currently undergoing significant evolution as a subject at King’s. Our ambition is to become a centre of educational excellence in Computer Science.

This role arises owing to the expansion of the department and the introduction of A Level Computer Science. We are seeking to appoint a teacher of Computer Science on full-time basis who is eager to be part of the next exciting phase in the department’s evolution.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to, and lead on, the department’s strategy, vision and delivery, in line with our whole school aims to ensure that our digital education acts as a springboard for pupils for their futures, and that all pupils develop a solid understanding of programming, algorithmic thinking and emerging technologies. We wish to equip all our pupils with the skills of computational thinking, logical reasoning and problem-solving to enable them to play an active role in the creation and development of the digital world.

We would welcome applications from outstanding graduates with no prior teaching experience, as well as newly qualified and experienced teachers.

  • The capacity and imagination to develop the profile of the discipline within the school, including in the extra-curricular sphere through challenges, competitions, speakers and clubs
  • An ability to work well with others
  • Excellent communication, organisation and listening skills

The following would be advantageous:

  • Prior experience of teaching GCSE and A-Level Computer Science or a related subject in a secondary school environment.

Values and vision

Our school was founded in 1829 by Royal Charter as the junior department of the university, King’s College London, and as such, intellectual aspiration and a progressive spirit are our heritage.

Today, we offer an education of the whole person, in Mind, Spirit and Heart, the enduring ethos of our foundation. Our guiding mission is to look outwards, to the world beyond school, and to life at 25: we look to the lives we are preparing our young people to lead, so that when the time comes, they are ready to forge the pathway they choose, and to make a purposeful impact.

We aim for each of our pupils to enjoy an exhilarating adventure of learning and to pursue academic excellence within a fun, caring, welcoming environment. Academic outcomes at A level, IB and GCSE consistently place King’s amongst the very top schools nationally and globally.  Supporting our pupils to grow strong in spirit, in the shared values and qualities of character that will ground them, is equally important.
