Closing date:

Prince of Wales Island International SchoolBalik Pulau, Penang

Date posted:
Start date: September 2020
Contract type: Full Time
Salary: Undisclosed
Contract term: Fixed Term

We seek a specialist to join our growing department to deliver the Computing curriculum as laid out in the National Curriculum for England and Wales. At Key Stage 3, a Computing programme of study which covers IT, Computer Science and Digital Literacy is being developed. At Key Stage 4, IGCSE ICT and IGCSE Computer Science are offered, and we have introduced AS and A level Computer Science. We have coding and Raspberry Pie clubs as part of the school’s extensive co-curricular programme. Candidates should have recent experience of teaching Computing in an English curriculum school and be familiar with the current requirements. As this is a rapidly growing area for the school, the ability and willingness to work creatively and collaboratively is essential.

If the appointee is not an English first language speaker, a very high level of spoken and written English is a prerequisite. We will also expect a strong academic background, with the ability and enthusiasm to teach the subject to A level.

There is a dynamic staff culture at the school and there is an emphasis on the use of IT in all subjects in a blended and realistic educational environment, achieving the best outcomes with varied approaches. Since the foundation of the school in 2011, POWIIS has built a significant academic reputation with outstanding results, although we have students of a wide range of abilities, all equally deserving of the highest quality of teaching to the level of their potential.

The school offers an holistic education and all staff are involved in our extensive co-curricular programme. Also, the pastoral care of all our students is a priority and all staff are allocated a small group of tutees across the age range of the school, for whom they will provide support and mentoring in their academic progress and personal development. Opportunities may exist to join our boarding staff, while all staff are involved in our boarding programme on an occasional basis.

Malaysian work permits are usually granted for two or three years. Contracts are therefore fixed term, but continuity is important for the school; it is hoped that appointments will be seen as longer term, with renewal of contracts common in the school. The school is proud of its staff stability, as most enjoy the lifestyle the region provides and the professional progression we actively promote. The staff is predominantly European, who share with high quality Malaysian colleagues, outstanding facilities and resources. There is a deliberate focus on staff development, with low staff turnover.

Applicants are encouraged to explore the school’s website:  www.powiis.edu.my

The closing date is FRIDAY 31st JANUARY 2020

Candidates should apply to the school directly at recruitment@powiis.edu.my sending a completed application form

together with a brief letter of application and Curriculum Vitae. Incomplete applications will not be considered, and supporting documents are not required at this stage. We will acknowledge all applications, and look forward to hearing from you.
