JOB OVERVIEW

Bellerbys College Brighton is looking for a full time, permanent Teacher of Computing to deliver highly effective modules across our pathways including A Level in Computer Science, our own Computing Foundation Course and potentially GCSE ICT.

Reporting to the Head of Subject of IT and working alongside other members of the Maths and IT Faculty, we require a teacher who has had experience in teaching A Level Computer Science to Year 12 and Year 13 students, preferably using the AQA syllabus. The successful candidate will have very good technical skills and would also be involved in teaching some of our Foundation modules in Computing, which are Introduction to Programming (using Python), Coding (using Java), Systems Analysis, Databases (Access, SQL) and Web Design (including JavaScript, CSS)

You will need to project a flexible and open minded approach to your teaching. Our classrooms are interactive and engaging and our small classes ranging from 6-14 international students and bitesize modules are what make teaching at Bellerbys so great. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write appropriately stimulating and challenging Schemes of Work for Computer Science, Computing and IT, ensuring up to date information
  • Effective delivery of courses 
  • Ensuring students’ notes are appropriate and well-organised
  • Marking student work and returning within agreed deadlines
  • Marking exams and/or coursework and accurately recording
  • Furnish detailed comments for UCAS applications when requested
  • Liaising with Head of Subject of IT, Head of Faculty, Head of Sections & Exams Officer as appropriate to make exam entries for students taught
  • Writing academic reports as required 
  • Using educational technology in teaching, including interactive whiteboard with StudySmart
  • Ensure students have appropriate textbooks, liaising with the Head of Subject of IT as necessary
  • Ensure a punctual start and finish of classes
  • Set a good example to students in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality and attendance
  • Demonstrate a high level of motivation and enthusiasm for teaching
  • Attend regular Faculty and staff meetings, and events
  • Be proactive in taking responsibility for matters relating to health & safety
  • Undertake professional duties that may be reasonable assigned (e.g. cover, invigilation etc.)
  • Keep accurate daily online registers
  • Tutor duties may be required – dependent on role and college (pastoral and HE guidance pending term and group)
  • Other related activities as may be reasonably requested by the Head of Subject of IT or Head of Faculty

EXPERIENCE

  • Good first degree essential
  • Good first degree in IT or Computing desirable but not essential
  • Teaching qualification desirable but not essential
  • Experience of teaching Computing
  • Experience of teaching Computer Science
  • Expert knowledge of effective teaching and learning methods, particularly in a further education context
  • Clear subject knowledge (to be assessed via an exercise at interview)

Brighton & Hove is a lively, cosmopolitan city on England's south-east coast.

Our new purpose-built Study Centre will set new standards of excellence for teaching, social and residential facilities. Set in a contemporary, cutting-edge and environmentally-friendly building, the centre features for floors of teaching space, including 62 classrooms, science laboratories, art studios and a state-of-the-art library.

A bright, spacious cafeteria offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with hotel-quality catering. You can choose to sit in the lower cafe level offering fresh coffee and snacks or enjoy a meal in the upper restaurant level. There is also an outside courtyard area where you can take a break when the sun is shining.

Also within the centre are five floors of residential accommodation, linked to the main Study Centre by an enclosed glass walkway. The residence features 375 single, en suite bedrooms with student common rooms on each floor and an internet cafe.

Our Student Services department will help you with a number of matters including opening bank accounts, fin ding your way around Brighton and registering with a doctor. Whatever you need, they are on hand to make your life easier so that you can concentrate on your studies.
