Job overview

Belper School and Sixth Form Centre  are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic teacher of Computing who is able to share in the teaching of 11-18 age and ability range with the ability to teach A-Level. In this forward-thinking faculty, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues which are both committed and supportive.

There are currently 3 teachers of Computing, who are also pastoral form tutors. We see the role of the tutor as central to the student’s experience, so we expect to liaise with colleagues who are tutors right across the school in the normal course of our specialist teaching. In this way, the faculty operates within a close-knit supportive school network.

In Key Stage 3, students are taught in mixed ability tutor groups. As a faculty, we feel that our scheme of work at KS3 should consolidate, build upon and embed key knowledge and skills encountered in KS2, enabling all students to have a secure grounding in Computing that will help with their transition into KS4. We want students to enjoy the subject and feel confident that they can become successful, so that they become independent, intuitive and resilient learners.

Computing is an option choice at KS4, and students who opt to study follow the OCR GCSE in Computer Science (9-1) specification. This qualification has been established for a long time at this school and we have a strong track record of success. We also offer the A-Level Computer Science qualification in Sixth Form, which again has a proven track record of success year on year. We have lots of students over the years who have studied Computing in KS4 and KS5 who have gone on to read the subject at University.

We offer lots of opportunities extra-curricular at lunchtime and afterschool in Computing, to all ages and abilities, and this has led to the school taking part, and in some cases winning, competitions and accolades in local and national events. Extra-curricular activities are always oversubscribed and popular across the age range.

The faculty has schemes of work and lesson resources across the curriculum embedded in the Google Classroom suite, and we also integrate these with Google Workspace apps. Students are encouraged to use this outside of the classroom when completing and handing in work. Our ethos as a faculty is to continually keep moving forward and integrating new and emerging technologies in our schemes of work and teaching.

This position would be suitable for an experienced teacher or an Early Career Teacher for whom there would be ample opportunity to develop professional skills within our highly supportive Induction, CPD and Early Career Framework Teacher programmes.

If teaching in this sort of environment appeals to you, please read the supporting information below and follow the instructions on how to apply. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.
