Rickmansworth School is an outstanding school (September 2023). We are an 11-18 heavily oversubscribed co-educational partially (35%) selective academy with around 1540 students on roll, increasing to around 1575 students over the next year. Academic results are strong at KS4 and KS5 with the vast majority of students securing their first choice university destinations.

The School is in a very strong, stable financial position with over £6M recently spent on school expansion including a new Sixth-form centre, performing arts theatres and an Innovation & Design Centre. The School is also supported extremely well by a fantastic PTA and Foundation. Our outstanding staff well-being programme includes access to our fitness suite and swimming pool, flu vaccinations, complimentary eye tests and a fortnightly wellbeing afternoon. The School’s admissions criteria gives preference to staff members’ children (as there is a demonstrable skill shortage for this post, the successful candidate could apply for a priority admission place for their own child). 

About the Computing Department:

The appointed candidate will have the opportunity to join a friendly, welcoming, and well-organised department within our thriving school. We are seeking a creative, passionate, and highly qualified teacher who is motivated and committed to self-improvement, both personally and as part of a team. The successful candidate will also be actively involved in the extracurricular life of the school, as our computing department runs a wide range of activities and participates in local and national competitions. 

At our school, we place a strong emphasis on enhancing students' understanding of computing at both GCSE and A-Level. To achieve this, we have meticulously designed our curriculum to ensure that students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their exams. Our curriculum encompasses a comprehensive coverage of the OCR exam board's content requirements, including the study of multiple programming paradigms. We also prioritise the development of disciplinary tools and methods, enabling students to handle complex content in a sophisticated manner. Additionally, we provide guidance and support to help students effectively apply their knowledge to address examination questions. Our ultimate goal is to empower students to succeed in their computing studies and prepare them for future opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.

• Contribute to department planning for learning at all key stages; this includes writing schemes of work or long-term plans and creating and sharing resources
