Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of a Teacher of Computing to join a High School based in Sutton.

The School is seeking an engaging and passionate teacher to deliver Computer Science to highly motivated girls in their senior school.

The successful candidate should have the capability to teach A level Computer Science, creating challenging and thought-provoking lessons, with an emphasis on creativity and collaboration. The department is rapidly growing and leads on an exciting Space Technology Programme across the GDST network, as well as taking part in a range of computing and robotics competitions and projects. Computer Science is thriving here and this is an exciting time to join a growing team and to encourage more young women into this key area.

It will be essential that you are able to use Python to a high level, and/or another high-level language, and knowledge of robotics is desirable.

The ability to offer a second subject for KS3, such as maths or DT, would be an advantage. Please ensure that you state any additional subjects in your application.

This role would be ideally suited to an ECT, looking to join a supportive department and faculty, with superb ECT provision for professional development. Experienced teachers are also most welcome to apply, as are those who are unqualified but keen to share their passion for computing, coding and programming.

They are ideally seeking a part-time teacher but will consider a full-time role if a second subject can be offered.

About the School

The High School is an academically selective independent day school for 850 girls with an age range of 3 to 18 years. They are situated on a green and leafy site in central Sutton, close to excellent public transport links and major roads.

The School is characterised by a warm, happy and inclusive community, where girls support each other to aspire and achieve, and individuality is celebrated.

Employee benefits include:

  • Competitive salaries and pay progression
  • Membership of the flexible pension scheme (up to 18% employer contribution and flexibility to generate a pay top-up of up to 10% of pensionable salary in lieu of pension)
  • 35 week school year (including INSET days) across 3 terms with a two-week break in the Autumn
  • Access to extensive professional development opportunities
  • Training grants for qualifications
  • Free life assurance benefit
  • A discount of up to 50% on fees for children
  • Free lunches for all staff during term time (equivalent to at least £740 per year)
