Introduction

Queen Ethelburga’s is an Independent Collegiate of four co-educational schools. The postholder will join the department at an exciting time, as co-curricular opportunities are being developed alongside the academic curriculum, providing career development and varied responsibilities. In addition, the opportunity for a departmental management role may be possible for the right candidate.

Main Duties and Responsibilities are as follows

• Deliver subject specific lessons as required, in line with your specialism(s) and the needs of the department

• Provide lunch time, evening and weekend activities and develop the range of opportunities for our students

• Develop provision for, and assist with, the requirements of the numerous productions on site, this includes our annual Gym and Dance show which features cast members from Strictly Come Dancing working alongside our staff and students

• Provide optional 1-2-1 lessons in a variety of disciplines

• Ability to teach across Key Stages 3 – 5 

• Proficient in the use of ICT with the ability to collect, retrieve and process data.

• The ability to use and teach the use of subject specific software, equipment and processes.

• Ability to ensure learners achieve well relative to their prior attainment, making progress which is better than similar learners nationally. 

• Demonstrate excellent planning and organisational skills

• Ability to provide and interpret relevant subject, curriculum or pupil performance information

The Creative Arts Department

The Creative Arts Department comprises a number of key areas, including Drama, Dance, Music, Performing Arts, Design Technology, Fine Art, Fashion, Textiles, Ceramics and Photography. Further specialisms are under development. The ability to offer more than one subject from this range or within the broader creative arts would be of benefit.

Expectations

There are currently 40 x 35 min lessons per week of which 34 are timetabled (please note the school day is under review for September 2019).  There is a regular Saturday morning Academy for the Performing Arts which we are seeking to expand to cover a range of Creative Arts options. The postholder will be expected to offer evening and weekend tuition slots with time in lieu given during the school day. We teach for 34 weeks of the academic year.
