Job overview

Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. Following Ofsted’s latest inspection in 2016, The National School and College Performance Tables not only identify Queen Mary’s College as one of the best in the region, but it also places it in the top 5% of all A- level providers across the country.

Staffed by a very friendly and enthusiastic group of teachers who work closely together under the guidance of the Director of Learning, the Social Sciences department offers a broad range of courses to accommodate our student’s interests. At present we have 7 Criminology teachers who also teach across the range of courses offered by the department. Approximately 160 students are studying criminology, across both year groups. Numbers are expected to rise significantly in the forthcoming academic year. We’re currently looking for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join our dedicated team.

The intention is to create a timetable around your teaching skills and expertise as we offer a range of social science courses. We’re looking for someone with exciting ideas to build on current good practice and results. As well as teaching a regular timetable, you’ll also play a vital role as a Personal Tutor that motivates, monitors, supports and guides students’ academic progress through the College.

The ideal person will embody the principles of success and progression for all students, through teaching excellence in their subject and ability to pass on their passion. As well as a good relevant degree and a currently recognised teaching qualification, recent teaching experience would be useful. However, applications from newly qualified teachers are welcomed too. A confident classroom practitioner, you’re not only able to inspire students, you have the ability to work with others as part of a close-knit team. What’s more, you’re willing to share good practice and make a real contribution to the College’s support programme of study skills and extension work and intervention strategies.
