Job overview
The Oriel DT/Food Department
INNOVATIVE, MOTIVATED AND SUCCESSFUL
The Oriel Design & Technology team currently consists of 4 teachers and two D&T technicians. We enjoy excellent facilities with 3 large workshops, 2 fully equipped food technology rooms and a separate computer suite. As a department we are very well resourced and benefit from having dedicated food and resistant materials technicians, purpose built prep rooms and plenty of new equipment and resources.
We teach Food Technology once a week for years 7-9 covering a range of theoretical and practical skills. For years 10 and 11 we offer a choice of academic and vocational options; Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE and the Level 2 Hospitality and Catering Award. Each of these is taught over 5 hours per fortnight.
Food teachers at Oriel aim to provide every student in our care with the opportunity to master the fundamentals of their subject.
We teach our own KS3 schemes of work that have been carefully created to provide fun and interesting lessons that are challenging and provide a good base for progression onto GCSE and vocational food courses.
We are looking to appoint someone who…...
• Is an excellent teacher with the ability to stretch, inspire, enthuse and engage learners
• Has the ability to teach Food, Preparation and Nutrition to a high standard
• Has experience of teaching across Key Stage 3 and 4
We have excellent support for ECTs and would welcome applications from early career teachers who would like to grow and develop in an innovative and forward-thinking department; or more experienced teachers looking for their first promotion. Oriel actively encourages CPD throughout the school with a comprehensive program for teachers at all stages of their careers.
