Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an energetic, imaginative and enthusiastic part-time Dance teacher to join our outstanding and dynamic Performing Arts Faculty.  Currently the faculty offers weekly lessons in Dance for Key Stage 3, an Arts Specialism Day for Year 9 students, both GCSE Dance and RSL Level 2 Dance at Key Stage 4 and the RSL Diploma at KS5. An interest in developing opportunities for raising the profile of boys dance, and creating further opportunities and partnerships for engagement is desirable.

Norwood is a high achieving Performing & Visual Arts school.  Dance results at both KS4 and KS5 are amongst the highest in the school with students regularly going on to study and pursue careers in Dance at a range of prestigious institutions. In 2019 74% of Level 2 students achieved the highest grades possible in Dance, and 67% of Level 3 students achieved a Distinction or Distinction *.

The school offers bursary awards for students from Year 7 who demonstrate a talent and passion for Dance and from September 2021 will be offering further bursary awards for students joining in Year 10 who wish to study a specialist vocational 14-19 Arts Pathway.

With excellent facilities and established links with Laban and Rambert Dance, this is an exciting and unique opportunity for an enthusiastic and dynamic dance teacher to join a school that is passionate about the arts.

Ofsted reports

“Students’ achievement is best when teachers make good use of assessment to set a demanding pace. In a Year 9 mathematics lesson, rapid learning activities with regular assessment meant students quickly developed the confidence to apply the skills of expanding brackets to a variety of problems. Students benefited from immediate identification of their misconceptions and moved on without delay.”
