Job overview

Bacon’s has long been an important part of the fabric of the local community in South East London and has served the community in its various forms for over three hundred years. We are proud of that history and determined to meet the needs of students today and tomorrow. The school joined the United Learning MAT in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength since. We are now oversubscribed with first-choice applicants and achieved a ‘Good’ OFSTED inspection and excellent exam results in 2022.

Bacon’s is a thriving community that is welcoming of students of all faiths and those of none. Staff and students value the distinctive nature of its Christian ethos to which every member of our community contributes. Our values are courage, compassion, respect, faith and integrity. The strength of our ethos was recognised during a SIAMS inspection in 2019 which graded the College as ‘Excellent’.

We are fortunate to offer excellent sporting provision and also make use of off-site facilities. Learning is at the heart of everything we do. Part of our mission statement is that ‘students are exhorted to achieve academic and personal excellence’. We have the highest aspirations for our students, determined that anyone can achieve highly and overcome any barriers that may lie in their path. We do not apologise for insisting that all students behave well and work hard.

Bacon’s achievements were recognised by Ofsted in June 2022 when we received a grading of ‘Good’ overall and in every area. We also celebrated our best ever GCSE outcomes in 2022 with 79% of students achieving 5+ 9-4 grades inc. English and Maths and a Progress 8 of +0.48. Our VI form results were also our best ever with 69% of grades at A*-B and an ALPS score of 2 (top 10% nationally). This is an exciting time to be joining Bacon’s as we seek to continuously improve and be a great school in every respect.

The Role

Due to the retirement of our existing dance teacher after 30 years of service, we are seeking to appoint a passionate, highly motivated and ambitious Teacher of Dance. If you are a dedicated, motivated and determined individual looking for an opportunity to make your mark, this is the perfect opportunity for you to join our journey to success.

Dance is a strong department with a track record of successful outcomes. All students study dance through PE at KS3 and it is a BTEC option at KS4. Outcomes in 2022 were very strong with nearly half the students achieving merit or above. We are not complacent and seek to improve results year on year.

Our extracurricular offer is extensive and all performing arts teachers are required to contribute to this. The school is keen to develop extra-curricular dance next year and resources are being set aside to allow this to happen. You can play an integral role in developing the best dance provision in the area.

The ability to offer music and/or drama is an advantage. Performing Arts is a growing area of the school, and we can be very flexible in order to appoint the best candidate(s).

About you

This role calls for an individual who is able to inspire, challenge and motivate our students. You must have the highest of expectations of every student, be enthusiastic, flexible and have a desire to see dance continue to flourish as well as the desire to become a valued member of Bacon’s College.

This is an exciting time to join Bacon’s College; if you share our high expectations and are passionate about making a difference then we look forward to receiving your application.

United Learning

United Learning schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, perks, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have up to eight INSET days per year and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

Bacon’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all who work at the school to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
