Applications are welcome from newly qualified or experienced inspirational, enthusiastic and motivated teachers to teach Design and Technology across Key Stage 3 and 4. This will involve teaching AQA DT: Product and Design at GCSE.
Bristol Cathedral Choir School is a state funded academy. As a Cathedral School, the core values are derived from Christian teachings; we welcome those of all faiths and none and we are proud of our diverse, tolerant and respectful community. The school has a unique and historic city centre site combining ancient and new buildings. School assemblies and events regularly take place in the cathedral; the cathedral choristers are educated at the school. There are currently 630 students in Years 7-11 and 340 students in the sixth form. The school is the most over subscribed in the city. Student outcomes are excellent at all key stages and this post offers an exciting opportunity to work with motivated pupils within the framework of a supportive and successful faculty. BCCS received an outstanding Ofsted grade at its last inspection.
The successful applicant will have the skills and attributes to have a real impact upon learning, ensuring that all students achieve or exceed their potential. The successful candidate will be the main teacher of DT in the school and responsible for the department. There is an opportunity to lead the subject, design an appropriate curriculum and raise the profile of DT in the school. The ability to teach a range of Art, Graphics, ICT or Technology curriculum areas would be an advantage. The successful candidate may line manage staff who support the subject. All teachers have a role within the pastoral system as tutors; the ability to contribute to other extra-curricular areas of BCCS life will be welcomed.
The successful candidate will have strong classroom management skills and excellent subject knowledge. They will be creative and innovative and have high expectations of students. Ensuring that the department has a relentless approach to ensuring the highest Health and Safety standards will be a priority.
The DT Department
At KS3 DT is taught alongside Art and Textiles in a curriculum carousel. At KS4 students may opt for GCSE DT: Product and Design
The successful full-time candidate will teach approximately 43 x 60 minute periods out of 50 in a two week timetable.
Newly qualified teachers will follow a programme of induction to prepare for Qualified Teacher Status and will be entitled to a reduction in timetable and pastoral responsibilities during the NQT year. The Academy will offer newly qualified teachers the opportunity to obtain QTS subject to satisfactory progress. For more experienced applicants there is a programme of staff development and in-service training in the school and we are committed to the professional development of all our teaching staff.
There may be a TLR available for suitably qualified candidates in line with agreed responsibilities
