Teacher of Design and Technology

Milton Abbey SchoolDorset

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher of Design and Technology as soon as possible.

The Design and Technology Department enjoys a high profile, with a strong record of success, and was central to Milton Abbey being awarded BTEC School of the Year by Pearson in 2019. It offers students Edexcel GCSE Design and Technology and Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in 3D Design.  Join us, and you could soon be playing a vital role in the classroom and the pastoral welfare of our pupils.

Alongside teaching a standard timetable allocation, you’ll also play an active role in the extra-curricular life of our full boarding school. That means opportunities to contribute to off-timetable workshops, enrichment extension programmes, share good practice and play your part in aspects of community life such as coaching sports, directing plays or taking pupils on trips; these are all elements of a role that will enable you to play your part in our transformational education programme.

Applicants will need a good level degree in a Design and Technology related subject and a thorough knowledge of the curriculum. Experience teaching BTECs, GCSE and/or A-Level is desirable, while previous involvement in extra-curricular activities (professional, amateur or voluntary) is also desirable. We will also consider suitably experienced applicants from an industry background.

Over half of our students have identified learning challenges and our teachers need to be creative, empathetic and dynamic practitioners. You must be confident helping students follow the design process through to producing creative and practical outcomes using appropriate tools, techniques and materials. You should be confident using the full range of traditional workshop machines and tools, including CAD/CAM and CNC machines while holding a commitment to health and safety.

Further details may be obtained from our website or by emailing Applications must be submitted on the School’s application form.  The closing date for applications is Friday 17th December 2021.

Milton Abbey School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.  The appointment will be the subject of an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
