Job overview

Our ideal candidate is a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher who can work in partnership with our STEMV team to create exciting projects for KS3 and KS4 students.

We are looking for a teacher with a creative and flexible approach to supporting children and young people with a range of SEND and SEMH needs - encouraging them to reach their full potential. You will be passionate about delivering high-quality, stimulating lessons (including practical activities) to ensure that good progress is made by everyone.

You will help support children and young people who have experienced difficulty in learning in mainstream school and involve the students in local community projects. Our staff help our students develop confidence, skills and knowledge to believe that they can be successful in their own lives.

Just 40 minutes from central London by train, our alternative provision academy is based in Tilbury. Olive AP Academy – Thurrock was rated as “Good” in all  areas at its latest Ofsted inspection in December 2018.

Our brand new building opened to staff and students in summer 2017. We have up to 96 students aged between 11 and 16 on roll at any one time. The academy facilities include purpose-built kitchens, computing suites, music studio, workshop and multi-sports pitch.

Our staff support young people who have been placed at the academy for a period of intervention work or following a permanent exclusion from a mainstream school. The academy also supports young people with medical needs.

At Olive Academies we can offer you:

  • a close and supportive team in a working environment where your wellbeing is a priority
  • high quality CPD, strong links to mainstream schools and opportunities for career progression
  • an organisation which is values driven and has children at the centre of everything we do
  • the freedom to be innovative without the constraints of a mainstream curriculum.

We are able to offer this teaching post on a full time or part time basis.

Our academies always welcome visits from potential applicants. Please get in touch with Collette Hunnisett, Interim Headteacher (collette.hunnisett@oliveacademies.org.uk T: 01708 853781) if you would like to arrange a visit or need any further information.

Please email your completed application form, including your personal statement, to: susie.tyler@oliveacademies.org.uk

Closing date for receipt of applications: Monday 29 April 2019 (midday).

Interviews to be held at Olive AP Academy – Thurrock 7 or 8 May (TBC).
