The Taunton Academy is looking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of Design and Technology from September. A food specialism would be an advantage. This is a full time permanent position, starting in September 2023. Part time would be considered. We are seeking an outstanding candidate with a passion for Design and Technology to motivate and enthuse students, deepening their knowledge and understanding. In addition to this, the successful teacher will manage behaviour effectively to create a safe, respectful and nurturing environment so that students can focus on learning. This vacancy is open to both newly qualified teachers as well as more experienced teachers.
The academy is on a rapid improvement journey and has a strong staff team in place to ensure every child is enabled to fulfil their potential. We have excellent pastoral support and our students report that they feel very happy and safe at the school. We are proud of our students. The relationships between staff and students are strong. Community engagement is also an important feature; a recent poll showed a high degree of parental satisfaction.

With modern, impressive facilities, the academy currently caters for approximately 830 students, with an increasing roll anticipated to see numbers rise to in the region of 1200 over the next few years. Taunton is Somerset’s county town and has easy access to the M5. Somerset is a lovely place to live with the stunning Somerset Levels, Quantock Hills and Blackdowns on your doorstep.

Pyrland School (formerly The Taunton Academy) is a secondary school (11 – 16), located on the outskirts of Taunton with approximately 830 students on roll.
