Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a good honours graduate in an appropriate discipline to teach D&T at the College, from Year 9 through 13. This is an exciting opportunity to join a very strong and superbly equipped D&T Department in a leading school. It may suit either an NQT or a candidate looking to broaden their experience in a second post after a couple of years in their first teaching post. Applications are also welcomed from graduates looking to make a direct entry into teaching. The College provides statutory induction for NQTs and will assist graduate entrants to the profession to gain QT status. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the wider life of the D&T Department as well as to the College’s extra-curricular programme.

Whilst our preference is to make an appointment for September 2021, we may be able to postpone the start date for a particularly strong candidate until January 2022. Candidates whose current notice period would preclude a September start but who would be interested in joining us in January 2022 should state this in their letter of application.

The appointment will be made by the Head Master who will be assisted by the Head of Design & Technology and members of the College’s Senior Management Team.

Key Skills:

• An excellent classroom practitioner (or with the potential to become one), able to lead by example and inspire pupils.

• Degree-level education in a relevant discipline.

• A good team player with the ability to work as part of a small team but also to work independently.

• Outgoing in personality with the enthusiasm and gravitas to be an outstanding ambassador for the College.

• Organisation, discretion, flexibility and attention to detail.

• Excellent skills in oral and written communication.

• Ability to form strong working relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents.

• Willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the College.

• The ability to teach Engineering at GCSE is beneficial, but not essential.
