The Cooper School is currently seeking to appoint a dynamic and passionate Teacher of Design & Technology to join our highly successful department from September 2021. 

We are seeking applicants with a strong subject knowledge who have the ability to inspire students to achieve their full potential.  They will share the academy’s vision that all children can succeed and be reflective practitioners that contribute to a high performing team.

Applications from experienced teachers and NQTs will be considered. A background in Product Design and/or Engineering would be advantageous but not essential.

The Design & Technology Department


Culture

Design and Technology is a hugely successful and popular subject at The Cooper School. We currently teach on a rotation basis across Key Stage 3 (Year 7 & 8) and have GCSE’s in the following subject areas; Design and Technology, Art and Design Textiles, WJEC Engineering, Food Preparation and Nutrition and WJEC Hospitality and Catering. We also offer WJEC Level 3 in Food Science and Nutrition. All of these have again proven popular choices in Year 8 Options this year with us being at capacity in the classes. The department has also achieved strong GCSE and A Level results across the different subject areas.

One of the strengths of the department is the collaborative approach to lesson planning and curriculum development. This, combined with a team who are responsive to innovation, hardworking and good fun, makes for an extremely dynamic and exciting environment. We are committed to providing the best possible experience for all learners and building strong, professional relationships with our students which ensures they are keen to engage with the subject and instil the learners with the desire to dream big and become the conscientious designers of the future.

The Design and Technology Department is richly resourced. We have one dedicated Textiles room, two Food rooms, two computer suites, two Engineering workshops, a Product Design workshop, and a dedicated KS5 teaching room.  We are also assisted by two Technicians; one for Food and Textiles and one for Product Design/Engineering. We have a bank of Chromebooks to further enhance independent learning.
