Graded ‘Outstanding’ in 2008 and 2014 by Ofsted and in 2019 by the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, Cardinal Hume Catholic School is an 11–18, high-performing, academy which serves the East of Gateshead. We are proud to be part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, the largest Catholic Education Trust in the North East of England, which will have a total of 48 schools by the summer of 2022. Thus, there are a number opportunities for CPD and collaborative work across a number of schools. We wish to appoint a dynamic, well qualified, and highly effective Teacher of Design Technology. This is a thriving and popular area of the curriculum with excellent uptake and outcomes and Key Stages 4 and 5. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach some Food Technology at Key Stage 3. The following is a brief summary of the curriculum in Design Technology: 


• A Level Product Design (AQA)

• GCSE Design Technology (AQA)

• Level 2 Cambridge National Certificate in Engineering Manufacture (OCR)

• GCSE Food & Nutrition (AQA)

• In Year 9, students opt for a preferred pathway: DT, Food or Computing 

• Years 7 and 8 work in DT on a carousel basis


The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop within an established and supportive team of colleagues, and will have the benefit of working in our modern and well-resourced suite of dedicated classrooms and work areas.

Cardinal Hume Catholic School is a mixed, non-selective, Roman Catholic academy with sixth form in Tyne and Wear, serving students from the age of 11 up to 18. The school, situated in Gateshead, has over 1500 students on roll. It belongs to the Hexham and Newcastle Diocese and is part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust. The school was identified as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2014 and by the Hexham and Newcastle Diocese in 2019.
