Job overview

Required for September 2020, an enthusiastic and ambitious Teacher to join our Design and Technology department to teach Design Technology.  There are opportunities for more senior development for the right candidate but we will also consider NQTs for the post.    The successful candidate needs to be able to offer Product Design/Materials Technology.

The successful candidate must have a clear vision of how the teaching of Design Technology should develop over the next few years and have the passion and expertise to implement a relevant and challenging curriculum that inspires and motivates our students. A background in materials technology would be an advantage.

The faculty is housed in excellent accommodation, including three ICT suites and three practical classrooms.   We also have a brand new, state of the art food kitchen opened by Prue Leith.  The two Design Technology practical areas have recently been refurbished and the department benefits from excellent ICT access. The school has recently invested in a new ICT network across the school. Design Technology subjects are popular at GCSE and at present we offer product design technology, food and nutrition, hospitality and catering, textiles and art. These are taught by five full time and two  part time members of staff supported by two technicians.  The area is currently line managed by an experienced and successful former head of the Art department.  Pittville is also part of the Balcarras Teaching Partnership in Cheltenham and the Design and Technology Faculty has a close link with the department at Balcarras which has proved very successful.  We  also have links with local post-16 colleges who are also supportive of our curriculum developments.

The successful candidate will be joining a successful faculty which has high expectations of and for the students they teach. An ability to work well in a team and demonstrate an innovative and inspirational approach to teaching and learning is essential.

Pittville School is a good 11-16 school situated in a superb setting in the heart of Cheltenham.  Results are rising and we are particularly proud that visitors to our school always comment on the excellent behaviour and attitude to learning exhibited by our pupils. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a developing faculty and be part of our school improvement journey.  The school is oversubscribed in Years 7 and 8.
