Job overview

Dulwich College Beijing, established in 2005, is a dynamic, high-performing, co-educational independent school catering for 1450 expatriate children aged 1–18 from forty-five different countries across six continents. The College comprises three schools, each with its own Headteacher: Early Years, Junior School and Senior School. We offer an enhanced English National Curriculum and EYFS in Foundation Stage, and Key Stages 1, 2 and 3, International GCSEs in KS4 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in KS5. We are situated in the capital city of the second largest and fastest growing economy in the world, 45 minutes from both the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square. We were awarded British International School of the Year in 2011 and in March 2014 were inspected by the British-based Independent Schools Inspectorate, ISI, who reported that, ‘The quality of the pupils’ achievements is excellent, reflecting the successful fulfilment of the school’s aims. The school develops confidence in its pupils, enabling them to apply their skills and talents across the curriculum. Pupils are supported by excellent teaching and their attitudes to learning are exemplary.’ This year we have just heard that the College has been shortlisted for a British International School Award for Teaching Initiative. We have sister schools in Seoul, Shanghai, Suzhou and Singapore, all of which draw on the educational vision and values of Dulwich College London.

DCB1723 Teacher of Design Technology-Systems and Control (Senior School)

To join an excellent team of four Technology teachers, who deliver our Design Technology, STEM and Computer Science programmes in a creative and engaging manner. We have about 30 students in each of Years 10 and 11 taking IGCSE Computer Science as one of their options along with between 5 and 10 students taking IB Computer Science in each of Years 12 and 13. We are about to launch a non-IGCSE STEM course in Key Stage 4 and have a few students taking IB Design Technology. Student achievement is well above UK benchmarks, and the department has a strong profile across the school. You will be a highly effective and dynamic classroom teacher, with a genuine commitment to putting students first. An ability to teach systems and control at all each groups is the priority but expertise in other strands of Design Technology would be an advantage.

Teaching Environment

We enjoy the benefits of a diverse, lively, very hard working and well-resourced learning community. Technology enriches this, through our use of Office 365 and our 1:1 laptop policy for Years 6-13. All teachers use a laptop computer and all classrooms are digitalised. Continuing Professional Development has a high profile across all parts of the school. Training in areas of technology is provided in house by our ICT Integrators and Champions, as well as from a range of external providers.

Students sit IGCSEs in Year 11 and the IB Diploma in Year 13. All teachers are expected to make a contribution to the co-curricular life of the school.

DCB operates its own salary scale and the school provides and pays for modern and comfortable accommodation within easy reach of the school. Most teachers find that the very generous package enables them to make significant savings whilst enjoying a high quality of life in a vibrant, safe and culturally rich capital city. As well as a very competitive salary the school offers two flights per year to home destination, full international medical coverage, free school places for up to two dependent children and a contribution to living expenses, for example restaurant and laundry bills.
