Teacher of Design Technology with Child Development - Full Time, Permanent

Required from September 2018, an enthusiastic, well qualified, Teacher of Technology with the ability to deliver a specialism in Food and Child Development to GCSE level. The ability to offer Textiles would be advantageous. We seek a well qualified and enthusiastic teacher with a commitment to pupils of all ability in a comprehensive secondary school.

The department consists of 9 full time colleagues, including 2 members of the leadership team and a colleague with responsibility elsewhere in the school. Teachers are supported by two D&T based technicians. Staff deliver the full range of technology areas across years 7 & 8 on a rotation basis, with each group having a 100 minute (2 doubles) per week. In Year 9 all students select two material areas to study in more depth before starting formal options in year 10. For GCSE students receive 6 50 minute lessons per fortnight. Currently the department offers a range of examined courses including GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition (AQA), GCSE Design Technology (AQA), Cambridge National Child Development and BTEC Construction. The department is based across 8 specialist teaching rooms with Textiles and Child Development being taught in two of our newest spaces. The department have access top a range of specialist facilities and resources, an ICT room and a bank of laptops for use in teaching spaces.

The school is in the process of converting to become an academy as a member of a newly created Multi Academy trust—Tarka Learning Partnership—which will consist of Park and 5 feeder primary schools and a SCITT. This will allow for greater rigour, collaboration and further development of teaching and learning. The school also belongs to NORDAB (North Devon Academic Board) an association that covers North Devon, providing supportive mechanisms between partner schools for staff training, developing and sharing ideas. More recently the school has been developing links with the D.T.S.A (Dartmoor Teaching School Alliance) and the NDTSA (North Devon Teaching School Alliance) and governors are keen for the school to form strategic alliances with appropriate bodies to ensure rigour to our own curriculum and quality assurance systems.
