We are looking for enthusiastic teachers who are committed to excellence and ready to work in a dynamic part of Scotland to deliver quality education to assigned pupils and contribute, within collegiate ethos, to the professional life of the school in relation to pupils, staff and appropriate external bodies within the agreements of the Local Negotiating Committee for Teachers and the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.

Salary for this post will be in accordance with SNCT agreements. Applicants must be or eligible to be fully GTC Scotland registered.

This post is regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.  Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Aboyne Academy is a co-educational, six-year secondary school in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. First opened in 1974, the school has seen extensive modernisation and development over the years. It has a variety of sports facilities, including a swimming pool, squash court, games hall and an astroturf pitch. 

Aboyne Academy maintains a number of partnerships with external companies, including offshore accommodation developer Arcadion, which works closely with the school and contributes to certain aspects of the curriculum, such as graphic design.

Values and vision 

Aboyne Academy is a smaller-than-average school, with around 700 pupils. It offers a varied and wide-ranging curriculum to its students. The school makes extensive use of its sports facilities and offers a wide array of extra-curricular activities. Pupil at the school follow the same timetable for their first two years, after which they are given the ability to be more selective in their education, without straying away from their core subjects.

“Young people learn and achieve very well within a caring and vibrant school community. They are confident, articulate and engaged in what they learn. They are able to reason, evaluate and tackle problems well. In the best lessons, they are involved in searching discussion and questioning by teachers which helps them to think for themselves. They use the variety of feedback from teachers to understand their strengths and think about how they can improve.”
