Teacher of Drama

Full Time

Fixed term for one year

We are looking for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Drama to join a thriving, supportive and successful department. This post is suitable for either an experienced teacher or an ECT and the ideal candidate would be able to teach Drama at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

Drama at Hollyfield is a very popular subject across all key stages. The department is well established and has a good uptake at GCSE and A Level. Hollyfield has a proud tradition of success in the arts and we provide a Performing Arts Scholarship for enthusiastic students in Years 7, 8 and 9, who enjoy additional lessons, trips and workshops. We also have our own theatre company, Ilex Theatre, who have performed a range of plays and musicals at school and (with National Theatre Connections) at theatres including Reading Rep, The Lyric, Hammersmith and The Dorfman Theatre at The National itself. Our KS3 Drama Club, Ilex Juniors is currently working towards a summer production of No Strings.

The Hollyfield School has an extensive CPD programme which offers regular training sessions to enhance teachers’ classroom practice, which are led by all staff from within the school and the wider Multi Academy Trust. The school also offers a very well established ECT programme, in collaboration with our Trust colleagues and The Institute of Education, that supports early career teachers through their first two years in the profession.

The successful candidate will meet the following essential criteria:

●       QTS;

●       a broad base of subject knowledge;

●       the ability to teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5;

●       a willingness to lead extra-curricular activities within the department

●       a clear understanding of successful classroom practice

●       the ability to work effectively as part of a curriculum team;

●       the ability to maintain good classroom behaviour;

●       effective interpersonal skills;

●       demonstrable suitability to work with children and young people.

The trust provides excellent subject-level support, CPD and Leadership CPD through several programmes externally and within the Trust. 

This role is ideal for an individual who is committed to helping our students achieve their very best. We want the best people for our roles, so while this is primarily a full time post, we recognise that sometimes those best suited to roles on offer aren’t available full time.
