Job overview

Westminster Academy is an Outstanding International Business and Enterprise academy serving a multi-ethnic community in Central London. At Westminster Academy, we believe that ‘education is success’. By providing our students with a world-class education, we prepare them to be competitive on the international stage. The Academy has gained national recognition for its work to improve outcomes for our students, our personalised curriculum and aspirational and inclusive vision.

Within Drama, we prepare our students by teaching the skills required for the new GCSE qualification from Year 7 onwards. Drama focuses on developing students' confidence and creativity in Key Stage 3, giving an insight into different genres and bringing characters to life on stage. At Key Stage 4, students further enhance their skill set, studying practitioners such as Brecht and Stanislavski and learning about the roles of a director and designer to help them approach the new components of the GCSE. Drama complements the English studies at WA, exploring the same plays in Year 7, 8 and 9. As part of the Expressive Arts Department, Drama plays a key role in the extra-curricular provision at the Academy, enhancing students' learning through external companies and visits to the theatre. The drama teacher is an integral element of the productions at WA, directing and leading both the Christmas performance and Musical in the summer terms, plus additional performances during the year to showcase students' talent and devised pieces.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, driven, and an excellent classroom practitioner who is committed to student success and development. There may be the opportunity for an additional responsibility for the right candidate.

Experience of planning and delivering GCSE lessons is essential, as the job will involve working closely with all colleagues within the department to continue developing our existing provision. The willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities is also desirable. Most importantly, there is a real opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking, highly motivated team that is making a difference.

What we offer:

  • an innovative educational concept;
  • an excellent programme of continuing professional development;
  • the opportunity to develop personally and professionally;
  • the chance to shape the future of the subject;
  • a real commitment to staff wellbeing including offering access to the local gym, Perkbox, and weekly fitness sessions.
