The successful candidate could play an active role in the teaching of the subject across all of the age ranges up to and including A Level. At GCSE and A Level the Edexcel syllabus is followed. A commitment to extra-curricular activities is expected.

The school has a large, versatile performance space ‘The Shed’ theatre as well as a Drama Studio, a dedicated theory classroom and a costume department. The Department shares good practice and holds regular meetings in order to discuss ideas and monitor progress. There are also two peripatetic LAMDA teachers who runs a successful LAMDA programme and a Drama specialist who runs the Saturday Arts Academy for Cokethorpe pupils.

The Drama Department runs three major School productions every year as well as public performances in First and Second Form and the annual Inter-House Drama competition. Theatre trips are a regular part of the School year as are lunchtime Drama presentations.

About Cokethorpe School

Cokethorpe is an independent, day school for boys and girls aged four to eighteen, set in 150 acres of glorious Oxfordshire parkland, just two miles south of Witney and ten miles to the west of Oxford.

The School is unique in many ways; not only is our setting unsurpassed but we are also one of the only co-educational day schools in Oxfordshire with both Prep and Senior schools on the same site.

At the heart of our School is the belief that our pupils dig deeper, reach higher, and stretch further when they feel the embrace of supportive peers and the oversight of enthusiastic and experienced teachers who know when and how to challenge them. This sense of community is fostered by the close-knit House system where young people develop a deep sense of belonging; it is forged around the close, working relationship of the small classrooms, where teachers engage the intellect, encourage students to grapple with ideas, and teach lifelong respect and humility.

We are a happy, strong and vibrant community, in which individuals are generous of spirit, inspire friendship and support one another. Our teachers, pupils and parents value the School's small class sizes and emphasis on delivering liberal educational principles in an environment that celebrates individual achievements equally, whatever their passions might be.
