We will support any qualified teachers who are interested in moving into teaching food from another subject.

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, ambitious teacher of Food Preparation and Nutrition who can inspire and motivate our students and join us on our continuous journey towards excellence by raising standards, improving outcomes for all learners and deliver the TDA core purpose:

“To ensure that each student acquires the necessary knowledge, skills and character to make a positive contribution to society and ‘thrive’ as a global citizen”

We are seeking a highly motivated teacher of Food who will work within the DT team and the extended ADIT department and expand on the work done by the previous staff member in revitalising the subject. At present we have 53 students at year 11 and 25 at year 10, with all year 9 partaking in a food unit within their DT carousel and a growing group who wish to partake in extracurricular activities.

We have a dedicated Food room and are very well resourced. The subject also is blessed with a dedicated Food technician who will work with you to enhance our students’ FPN experience. At the moment we follow the AQA syllabus at GCSE, but this would be open to change through your discussions with the Subject Lead for Design Technology.

The Academy has a great history of success and a bright and exciting future. If you a current Subject Leader seeking a new challenge or looking for your first middle leadership role and if you are an ambitious, dynamic teacher then please download our recruitment pack for more information about the role, the department and instructions on how to apply.

This is an excellent opportunity and comes at an exciting time for the Academy. From September 2020 we are expanding our curriculum offer and, combined with an additional intake of Year 7 students, this enables us to create more opportunities across the Academy.

The Thomas Deacon Academy that we know today opened in 2007 as one of the UK’s first and largest academies. Whilst a building does not make a school, it is worth noting that Thomas Deacon Academy was designed by Norman Foster and Partners and in addition to our impressive main academy our beautiful 43-acre campus includes TDA Juniors - a modern, light, and purpose-built Key Stage 2 facility - and expansive playing fields and sporting facilities.

Moving forward, our vision for the academy is a simple one: we want every member of our learning community to be the very best that they can be and achieve their full potential.

The academy’s core values of Trust, Discipline and Aspiration define who we are as a community and how we learn together. We believe that every member of our learning community should have the highest expectations and standards, showing trust and discipline in all that we do.

In September 2018, a new extension to the existing main building led to new accommodation being created for a sixth form study centre, refectory expansion and staff professional learning centre.

In September 2019, TDA received a very positive Ofsted report, judging the academy to be Good overall. Ofsted commented favourably, amongst other things, on the overall leadership of the academy, good teaching, positive relationships between staff and students and students’ behaviour. These aspects of the academy have been maintained alongside the identified areas for development being addressed.

Thomas Deacon Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The Academy will require the successful candidate to provide satisfactory references and undertake an Enhanced Check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The Thomas Deacon Academy that we know today opened in 2007 as one of the UK’s first and largest academies. TDA's core purpose is:

“To ensure that each student acquires the necessary knowledge, skills and character to make a positive contribution to society and ‘thrive’ as a global citizen”

TDA believes that young people should leave them as citizens that are fully equipped with the character and qualifications to take their place in the world. They place great emphasis on ensuring they experience a broad and balanced curriculum, with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, opportunities for them to develop their 'character' and a strong pastoral system to support them with life’s challenges.

In September 2018, a new extension to the existing main building led to new accommodation being created for a sixth form study centre, refectory expansion and staff professional learning centre.

In September 2019, TDA received a very positive Ofsted report, judging the academy to be Good overall. These aspects of the academy have been maintained alongside the identified areas for development being addressed.

TDA is part of the Thomas Deacon Education Trust which provides a great community and a network of support and expertise. Importantly, the Trust's vision is to give students the highest-quality of education possible and the best start in life.
