Job overview

We are a highly supportive school with strong subject and senior leadership to help you develop. We are looking for a highly ambitious, committed and dynamic professional to join our Design & Technology department; someone who is passionate about their subject, communicates well with young people and makes a positive impact on their learning.

The Design & Technology department comprises of 4 full-time DT teachers, including the Curriculum Leader and 2 full-time Technicians. Our teachers are all passionate and skilled with our own areas of expertise. We work collaboratively to support each other both with the demands of our work and our wellbeing. The department has recently had investment in 3D printing facilities, as well as a laser cutter and a laptop trolley available in each DT room/workshop. We run a number of extra-curricular activities and educational trips throughout the year.

Design Technology, Engineering and Hospitality and Catering are popular Key Stage 4 options. The successful candidate will be able to teach Key Stage 4 in at least one of these specialist areas, across a wide range of abilities and be an inspirational practitioner.

At Key Stage 3, we work on a carousel basis through the DT material areas. Students develop their knowledge, understanding and practical skills in line with the National Curriculum. The successful candidate will be confident in delivering at this level in all areas (including Food Technology, Textiles and STEM). Teachers retain their classes throughout the year and deliver the different projects.

At Key Stage 4, our students currently follow:-

  • AQA GCSE Design Technology
  • NCFE Level 1/2 Technical Award in Engineering
  • WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Award Hospitality and Catering

The successful candidate will have a passion about learning, be an excellent teacher, have great subject knowledge with both theory and practical aspects within any specialist area of Design Technology/Engineering/Hospitality and Catering and strong inter-personal skills. A proficiency in the teaching and use of CAD/CAM is also essential within our Design Technology and Engineering subjects.

The successful candidate will value developing key employability and life skills such as analysing evidence, considering impact, critical thinking, research, reciprocation and value developing literacy.
