This is a part time position (0.5 fte)
We are looking to appoint a well qualified, enthusiastic technolgy teacher in this academically selective school. Although not essential, the ability to offer another technology subject would be advantageous, and candidates are asked to make reference to this in their application.
Early applications are most welcome.
King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS) is one of the most successful girls’ schools in this country with outstanding academic results and a large programme of extra-curricular activity. The school is an independent day school with 591 girls aged 11-18 and is part of the King Edward VI Foundation, which has eight schools in Birmingham. It is situated on a beautiful 50 acre campus in Edgbaston, which it shares with King Edward’s School. It is only three miles from Birmingham city centre and has excellent transport access by road and rail (the University train station is only a 10 minute walk).
The Food Studies Department
Food technology is taught as part of our Digital Learning and Technology course which encourages girls to be expressive and imaginative, to solve problems and to develop their creative abilities.
The Food Studies department has its own well-equipped room. Food Studies is currently taught as part of a rotation in Key Stage 3, as an enrichment option in Year 10 as well as being a very popular course taken by Sixth Form students as part of the school’s General Studies enrichment rotation. The focus is on developing practical skills and learning about nutrition.
A review of our Technology curriculum is in progress; we hope that the person appointed will not only play a key role in developing the role of Food Studies in the Lower School but also contribute more widely to the Technology curriculum. Current options in Digital Learning and Technology include Electronics, Textiles, Film- making, animation and set design.
