Teacher of Early Years Music

Nanwai King's College SchoolWuxi, China

Nanwai King’s College School has been formed through partnership between the highly successful Chinese education management group, Dipont Education, and the prestigious King’s College School, Wimbledon. A third partner in Wuxi is Nanjing Foreign Language School, one of China’s leading schools. At capacity, the whole school will serve over 3,100 students from 3 to 18 years of age.

About the School

Nanwai King’s College School opened in September 2018 with 750 pupils and is anticipated to reach just under 2,000 students in September 2021. Remarkable numbers that are testament to the quality of the project, its exciting vision and the support of partners, parents and the wider community.

The facilities at Nanwai King’s College School Wuxi are outstanding. We have successfully developed an educational environment that makes the most of our world-class campus and combines the best of Chinese and international approaches to learning and academic excellence, in a context of first-rate pastoral support and opportunities to excel outside the classroom.

In a short space in time, our students, who are mostly Chinese, have grown accustomed to the holistic style of education which is very different from the traditional offering at local schools. They have shown real enjoyment in the inquiry-based pedagogy being employed. Every student is involved in co-curricular activities in areas of music and performing arts, service, sports or creative endeavors.

Our exceptional staff contribute significantly to the co-curricular programme, pastoral and house systems and demonstrate great commitment to the students in their care. An excellent CPD programme is available at the school that includes professional development workshops on a range of topics.

There is a shared pedagogical approach throughout the campus, enabling Chinese and expatriate students to benefit enormously from the cross-cultural exposure.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Kindergarten, the successful applicant will join the school in August 2021. The Kindergarten caters for children aged 3 to 6 and operates an inquiry-based, bilingual curriculum based on the EYFS, the Chinese curriculum and elements of other international programmes.

Music plays a key part in the life of the school, both inside and outside the classroom. There are many performances through the year and an annual school musical.

The open-plan design of the kindergarten allows a fluidity in delivery that is essential in an excellent early years programme. The open plan nature of the building not only supports flexible and progressive learning but also fosters a sense of real belonging to the whole kindergarten. The outdoor environment at the kindergarten is as exciting as inside. Children are encouraged to have a sense of adventure, an inquisitive mind and a pair of wellington boots, as they play, explore and collaborate utilising every inch and shaping the space within which they learn.

Classes operate in pairs for each age group and are staffed by one Chinese teacher and one expatriate teacher with additional assistant support. This allows teachers to support each other in planning, delivery of the curricula and the development of each child’s English and Chinese language skills.
