Guildhouse School, located in the heart of Bloomsbury in central London, is a boarding school for ages 15+ that provides an immersive international environment for ideas and creativity, where students are empowered to make a positive impact on our world. OVERVIEW OF THE JOB 

The post holder will develop, deliver, and support academic programmes in line with agreed standards and policies. Teaching will include traditional A-Level, alongside the school’s own University Foundation Programme and Pre-A level programme. The post holder will plan, prepare and teach lessons which enthuse and inspire students, and promote enjoyment of learning. They will effectively use a variety of teaching styles, having regard to the individual learning needs of students. They will select and sequence appropriate materials, resources and approaches according to the course type and learners. The post holder will also discharge the duties of a Form (Personal) Tutor within the school. There is also an expectation to participate and engage with the school’s extra and co-curricular provision, enriching student’s learning experience and development of skills outside the classroom. 


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB

 As a subject teacher:

 • To assess, track and provide relevant and timely formative feedback on achievement, progress and developmental needs to students, academic and other managers/colleagues, including student records and integrate this into weekly and termly planning. 

• To set, evaluate, and mark promptly a range of formative and summative assessments as appropriate for students including diagnostic tests, coursework, homework and examinations in accordance with the School’s Assessment and Marking Policy and procedures and to record marks and grades on School’s systems as requested, 

• To write half-termly student reports with clear formative comments as to how to improve work, by deadlines given, and provide regular estimated grades and feedback on tests as required.

• To complete associated and administrative tasks to deadlines, as directed.

• To ensure lessons are in line with Schemes of Work and their respective objectives, and that these are shared with students. To give feedback on materials, courses and lessons to academic and other managers/colleagues as required.

• To develop materials and resources. Implement, support and/or lead in the production and improvement of Schemes of Work as appropriate and undertake other academic project work as directed. 

• To provide work for supervised study when a student has not completed assignments, notify Curriculum Director or relevant staff, and ensure work is marked promptly. 

As a personal tutor:

 • To induct students appropriately, to provide academic advice, counselling, educational guidance, and tutorial support to students, including individual learning plans as directed. 

• To monitor students’ attendance and behaviour and follow up as appropriate, in accordance with the School’s Behaviour and Attendance policies. 

• To encourage students to participate in all sports and social activities. 

• To deliver the Personal Development (PSHE) curriculum. 

• To deal with student issues/emergencies as and when they arise. 

• To promote intercultural understanding and be flexible to specific cultural needs of students.

The successful candidate will need to:

• Keep line manager and team informed of progress or difficulties. 

• Balance the normal demands or a range of work and responsibilities without disruption to other team members or school staff.

• Remain balanced, rational and tolerant in dealing with others at all times. 

• Demonstrate a clear empathy with students and staff and understands their needs. 

• Show awareness of issues pertaining to working in a multi-cultural environment. 

• Understand the demands of working within a market-led organisation. 

• Be comfortable with the use of Microsoft Office and other applications. 

• Be enthusiastic about the use of technology in the classroom. 

• Have a good level of written and spoken English.

The school is a co-educational independent day and boarding school catering mainly for international students aged 15+. We specialise in preparing students for university exams, including A Levels and the University Foundation Programme (UFP). We are the only school in Europe to host a Bloomberg Business Lab, complete with Bloomberg Terminals. There are approximately two hundred and thirty students on roll, class size average is nine across all programmes, and students take part in an extensive range of extra and co-curricular activities including leadership awards and national/international competitions.

The school was founded in 2011 under the name of “CATS College London”, joining CATS Cambridge and CATS Canterbury (founded in 1962) and joined by CATS Academy Boston in the US (in 2012). In October 2022 “CATS College London” rebranded to Guildhouse to better represent it's unique geography and educational offering as part of the CGS Global Schools Group.
