Job overview

Runnymede College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of two to eighteen. The education offered follows the British National Curriculum.

Founded as a private school in September 1967, the primary school was inaugurated in 1987, and since 1990, the whole School has been situated in La Moraleja, a residential estate 13 km to the north of Madrid.

Academic levels are high at Runnymede College. In June 2021, 74% of our students achieved A-A* at A Level, which meant two of our pupils gained places at Oxford, two at St Andrews, three at LSE, four at Imperial College, five at Bath and nine at UCL. Four of this year’s graduates are going on to study at the United States: one at Columbia, one at Pennsylvania and two at Boston University. Most of our graduates choose to study in the UK, Spain or the US, although other destinations such as France, Switzerland and the Netherlands are also considered.

Runnymede College is looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic individual to join its popular and academically successful Economics Department. The role would suit either an experienced or recently-qualified teacher.

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in economics or a related subject from a good university and should exhibit ongoing interest in the subject with students on a day-to-day basis. The successful candidate will be a positive and enthusiastic classroom practitioner with excellent interpersonal skills.

This role may include opportunities to be involved in the pastoral and co-curricular aspects of the school, such as Economics Society or Model United Nations.

The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering engaging and varied lessons to Year 12 and 13 A Level Economics students. They will enthuse pupils and ensure that lessons cater to the learning needs of all students, many of whom will be applying to Economics-related undergraduate courses at top universities in the UK, USA and Europe. On a related note, the successful applicant may be required to provide support to students with university applications and will provide guidance on university preparation, such as wider reading.

Economics is one of the most popular A-Level subjects at Runnymede, studied by over 100 pupils in the Sixth Form. The successful applicant would be supported by the experienced Head of Economics. There are currently two full-time members of the Economics Department, which has use of its own classrooms and resources.

The Department follows the AQA A-Level specification, with all assessment under this linear specification taking place at the end of the two-year A-level course. The department achieves impressive results in public examinations and supports a good number of Economics/Business university applicants each year. The successful applicant would be expected to teach A* calibre pupils and to participate fully in extension programmes, such as the Year 12 Extended Essay Competition.
