Due to increased demand within our Rolls Royce apprenticeship division, we are recruiting for Teachers within our workshops. We have a new opportunity for a Teacher of Engineering (Mechanical Maintenance) to join our apprenticeships team based at our client Rolls Royce in their Learning and Development Centre. This is an excellent opportunity to join a vibrant team providing an outstanding learning experience, through the delivery of engaging teaching, learning and assessment, which prepares our apprentices for the next stage in their career.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the effective day to day management of learners’ learning in accordance with the College’s objectives
  • Inspire learners and colleagues identifying, interpreting and applying specific knowledge
  • Raise retention and achievements for learners on a continual basis
  • Ensure that learners progress well from their different starting points and achieve or exceed standards expected for their age
  • Help learners attain relevant qualifications so that they can and do progress to the next stage of their education into courses that lead to higher-level qualifications and into jobs that meet local and national needs

Experience and Qualifications:

Essential

  • Strong vocational background within the engineering sector, particularly within mechanical maintenance
  • Certificate in Education/PGCE/Professional Diploma in Teaching or willing to work towards
  • Professional Subject Qualification at Level 3 or Advanced craft qualification if in vocational area
  • Level 2 Maths & English

Desirable

  • Degree in subject taught
  • Level 3 Maths
  • Recent professional development
  • Level 2 IT qualification
  • Teaching experience - Don’t worry if you have never taught before; we will fully support you to achieve your teaching qualifications

Derby College is a large general further education college with four sites in or near the city of Derby. It supports around 26,000 learners, who choose from more than 1,000 full-time and part-time apprenticeship, A-level, BTEC and NVQ courses.   

Derby College was established as a single institution in 2002 by merging three further education colleges: Mackworth Tertiary College, Wilmorton Tertiary College and Broomfield Agricultural College. A merger between South East Derbyshire College and Derby College was approved in 2010. Heavy investment has been made by the college in its teaching and learning facilities, from the fully equipped teaching kitchens at the Roundhouse campus to the high-tech science labs at the Joseph Wright Centre and the Equestrian Centre at the Broomfield Hall campus.
