Job overview

A rare opportunity to join the dynamic engineering team at one of the largest UTCs in England and the first to achieve Ofsted Outstanding status. UTC Reading is a thriving environment within an ambitious and forward-thinking MAT. We are rapidly adaptive and not afraid to ‘just do it’ - we delivered some of the county’s best on-line learning during past Covid lockdowns, as featured in the Guardian newspaper. We are ready to do it again whenever necessary. Our alumni take up successful careers through university degrees (including Oxbridge), apprenticeships and the engineering axis of the armed services.

We are looking for a versatile and motivated engineer to focus on delivering units in our BTEC level 3 courses, focussed on mechanical, CAD and engineering business processes such as H&S and Quality Management Systems.

Are you multi-skilled across these topics already? If not – do you want to achieve this diverse skillset in a supportive but individualistic environment? If so, we’d love to talk to you!

Absolute musts for this role:

• Enthusiasm for your subject and its real-world applications

• A self-starter, able to work independently but with a well-developed understanding of the need for team communication

• A desire to deliver the most memorable, engaging, and career-relevant learning experiences that you can

• A team player who wants to contribute strongly to the evolution of the courses, facilities and our ‘real world’ links

• Passionate about the creation of the next generation of professional engineers

• Have an “I can’t do it (yet)” mentality

At UTC Reading we are renowned for the strong links between our courses and the real world of engineering in industry, academia and the armed services. These links have only become stronger during Covid. This role offers the opportunity to utilise your own ‘real world’ links and experience and to develop industry-linked skills with us, be it using industry-standard equipment, arranging external experts to present to a class group, running industry visits, or attending our annual teacher industry placements.

Up for the challenge? Then let’s talk!

Applications will close at 9am on Monday 7th February

Shortlisting will take place on Tuesday 8th February and interviews are scheduled for Thursday 10th February.

If you would like to discuss this role further or visit the UTC, please contact Jennie Thomson, Assistant Principal at jennie.thomson@utcreading.org.uk

We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Values and Vision

University technical colleges are a new type of school in which the curriculum is geared heavily towards employability and skills. UTC Reading is heavily focused on engineering and computer science, providing a high-quality curriculum in co-operation with industry partners. The school works closely with a number of external bodies such as the University of Reading, Microsoft and Network Rail. This is intended to ensure that students are able to maximise their employability and relevance in the modern workplace. Although engineering and computer science are the main focuses of the school, UTC Reading does still offer a strong wider curriculum with subjects such as humanities and languages.
