We are a boy's school with co-educational Sixth Form. There are currently 960 pupils on roll; approximately 100 of these are boarders. The Sixth Form has about 340 students of whom just over 100 are girls.

Due to our school expansion we are seeking to recruit a specialist teacher of English and Drama who will be able - in their first year only - to teach another subject. We have a large number of modest-sized gaps in our curriculum to fill for the next two years so we welcome applicants who can offer any other subject(s) . Should the successful candidate wish to continue to teach another minority subject long-term, we may be able to facilitate this depending on the overall staffing situation.

Candidates must have significant experience of teaching English Language and English Literature to GCSE. Ideally, candidates should have at least some experience of teaching A-level English Literature. If the candidate is able to teach Drama at KS3, GCSE or AS Level, this would be an advantage.

Newly qualified teachers will follow a full programme of induction to prepare for Qualified Teacher Status. For more experienced applicants there is a programme of staff development and in-service training in the school; we are committed to the professional development of all our teaching staff.

The extra-curricular side of school life is very important. The English Department organises or contributes to activities such as school drama productions and dance events; a house poetry competition; a creative writing group; a senior debating club; a range of theatre trips and the school magazine.
