The SABDEN Multi Academy Trust, based across East Sussex, is an aspirational and supportive Trust, aiming to create a warm, caring, stable, supportive environment in which all staff and pupils feel safe. We are three special schools, a secure unit, a large countywide Pupil Referral Unit and an Alternative Provision Free School. College Central is a ‘Good’ county-wide Pupils Referral Unit with multiple sites across East Sussex. It provides education to young people with who have been, or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream school and may display difficult and challenging behaviours.


College Central - Hastings is seeking to recruit an engaging and inspirational teacher of English/Literacy, starting in September 2022. We would welcome applications from all specialisms, with the ability to adapt to teaching English and literacy to pupils who have difficulties accessing mainstream styles of teaching. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ensuring all pupils make progress and succeed, developing enjoyment in reading, writing and communication along the way.  


You will be an effective and enthusiastic practitioner who is passionate, highly organised and has the ability to motivate and engage learners at all levels. A proven ability to work with challenging students and a flexible, resilient ‘can do’ attitude are essential. The successful candidate will also contribute to the overall quality of education at College Central Hastings and will support colleagues to maximise opportunities for literacy development within their subject areas.


If successful, you will become part of a very committed and hardworking team that continues to be ambitious in its drive to improve outcomes for our pupils. You will join a highly dedicated and professional staff team and be part of a supportive working and learning environment, where your professional development is highly valued. While some experience of working with vulnerable young people is preferable it is not essential.  We will provide you with high quality training and support.
