TEACHER OF ENGLISH – Fixed Term for 1 year
Full Time - Required for September 2019
MPR / UPR Scale
Nestled in Barnard Castle in the spectacular Teesdale countryside and imprinted with the historic values of the Dales and our close-knit community, Teesdale School is a place where traditional values of kindness, respect and hard work take precedence. Within 30 minutes of both Darlington and Durham and just over an hour from York and Newcastle, our idyllic yet convenient location affords our staff an enviable quality of life.
Our school teaches 575 children across Key Stages 3 and 4 and post-16. Our small size means that as a teacher here you can really get to know your students; know who they are; their aspirations, ideas, talents and dreams, bringing out the best in them and helping to champion their ambitions and give them a great start in life.
We joined The North East Learning Trust in September 2016, a successful multi-academy trust led by The Academy at Shotton Hall, which has two consecutive outstanding grades, an outstanding SCITT and three national leaders of education. This partnership began with a clear focus on our school becoming truly outstanding. That journey is well underway. The GCSE results in 2018 placed us well within the top 10 in the whole of the North East in all key government measures of performance.
We are looking to appoint a Teacher of English with a love of their subject, energy and enthusiasm, to teach across all year groups from September 2019.
The successful candidate will:
• have a very high level of understanding of English Language and Literature with a passion to pass this on to others;
• be a creative, imaginative, innovative and experimental classroom practitioner;
• be committed to further professional development;
• be emotionally intelligent with a growth mindset;
• have potential to lead, inspire and develop colleagues and students;
• have high expectations of himself/ herself and others.

About Teesdale School
Nestled in Barnard Castle in the spectacular Teesdale countryside and imprinted with the historic values of the Dales and our close-knit community, Teesdale School is a place where traditional values of kindness, respect and hard work take precedence.
In July 2019 we were awarded an ‘outstanding’ judgement in all areas from school inspectors Ofsted - the highest grade a school can achieve. This judgement, along with our subsequent excellent A level and GCSE exam results in August has accelerated our aspiration to become the very best school in County Durham. In 2020 we were named as the Sunday Times State Secondary School of the Year.
Our school teaches over 600 children, all of whom we know individually. We know not just their progress and grades, but take pride in knowing who they are; their aspirations, ideas, worries, talents and dreams. By understanding not just what our students can do, but who our students are, we can truly bring out the best in them, helping to champion their ambitions and nurture their talents.
About the North East Learning Trust (NELT)
In 2016 we were sponsored by the North East Learning Trust, a successful, multi-academy education trust. The trust is made up of seven secondary schools (including four sixth forms), four primary schools, a teacher training provider, Shotton Hall SCITT, a national Research School and a National Teaching School Hub.
