We are seeking to appoint a permanent teacher of English to teach in this selective 11-18 Grammar School for Boys. The successful applicant will be required to teach English from KS3 – KS5 and the ability to teach KS3 Drama would be an advantage but not a requirement. Applications are welcome from teachers at any stage in their career including ECT and RQT.

  • The salary will be paid on the main professional scale (M1-UPS3). 


  • The position is effective from 17th April 2023.


  • English is a successful department at King Edward VI Aston School where colleagues teach in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.


  • There are four rooms dedicated to English teaching – each is equipped with an electronic whiteboard. 


  • All pupils are entered for a GCSE English Language & English Literature with the AQA syllabus being followed for both. For A-Level, the AQA syllabus is also followed.


  • External examination results are generally strong – the average GCSE grade is 7+ and results at A-Level are outstanding with a 100% A*-C pass rate in 2022 with 67% gaining grades A*-B.


  • Extra curricular activities are an important feature of the department’s work. Colleagues where the timetable permits are given the opportunity to deliver courses in the KS4 enrichment programme and undertake the role of Extended Project Qualification tutor. Visits to the theatre take place and the department leads on the school’s public speaking competition.


  • We are seeking to appoint a committed & enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working as a member of a team and is constantly seeking ways in which they can improve on their current practice.

King Edward VI Aston School is an academy school for boys based in Birmingham for students aged 11-18. It is a Christian school.

A selective grammar school for boys and one of the twelve schools of King Edward VI in Birmingham.  It has been part of the Aston community since 1883 and has strong links with many local schools and organisations primarily through the work of its Sports Partnership.
