To start September 2020 (an April 2020 start is possible)

BCS is looking for a professional and talented Teacher of English to join our experienced and supportive English Department.

We are looking for a committed and forward thinking professional who will contribute to the growth of this important subject area.  Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to be an effective team member and they will show how they have or will contribute strategies and resources to support this growing department.

The English department celebrated its best ever set of GCSE results in 2019, with 96% grades 9-4 in English Language and 100% 9-4 grades in English Literature, with over a third of pupils achieving grades 9-7 in each subject. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and passionate about the teaching and learning of English, with the vision, commitment and determination to continue raising standards across all levels and abilities and further contribute to the progress of our pupils. A desire and ability to contribute to extra-curricular English activities, such as theatre trips, competitions, our inaugural literary festival and other events is essential.

The department is forward-looking: we constantly explore new ways to engage our pupils and convey a love for the subject. BCS has recently invested in iPads for all pupils, and we are exploring new avenues of English teaching using this exciting technology. Good ICT skills or a willingness to engage with technology in English teaching will be an advantage for this post.

You will inspire and challenge young people to enable them to develop into highly effective, independent learners and achieve their potential as individuals. You must be:

• Ambitious, energetic and enthusiastic

• Committed to raising standards

• Committed to sharing good practice

• Committed to excellence

• Dedicated to achievement for all

We are happy to receive applications from every level of the teaching community; you may be looking for your first teaching post, you may be looking to move schools or areas, you may be looking to return to teaching after a break.  Whatever your reason we look forward to receiving your application.

BCS is a co-educational independent school on the south coast. The school has extensive facilities across two sites; BCS Senior (day and boarding, 11-18) is situated in excellent grounds in Southbourne, Bournemouth and BCS Prep (day, 2-11) is in spacious accommodation in Lower Parkstone, Poole. There are currently approximately 630 pupils on roll.

BCS provides a nurturing environment where the happiness of the pupils comes first.

We have developed the 4Cs of BCS; creativity, curiosity, commitment and community and through our broad and dynamic curriculum we believe we equip, challenge and develop pupils in all these important areas.

Our added value also extends to the significant number of co-curricular opportunities offered to pupils, which help to instil and develop the skills we want our daughters and sons to have as they grow up. Consequently, BCS pupils leave the School as well-balanced, confident and versatile young people.

We want to inspire each pupil to make the most of the talents they have. This way the pupils at BCS, of any age, grow in self-esteem, develop resilience, have a sense of fun and adventure and are equipped to flourish as young adults.
