Teacher of English

(1 Year contract)

The Governors of this over-subscribed Roman Catholic Girls’ School wish to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of English to join a strong, collegiate and effective department with a consistent record of outstanding results.

The successful candidates should:

• be able to teach Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
• be an enthusiastic and effective practitioner, with excellent teaching skills and experience
• encourage all pupils to have the highest possible aspirations and develop positive attitudes to learning 
• enable all pupils to reach the highest standards of which they are capable
• contribute actively to the personalised learning experience and the achievement of all the pupils that you teach or support 
• foster students’ interest in English and to promote its contribution to their overall learning experience
• be willing to actively contribute to curriculum development 
• have a genuine belief that every child matters

We are a dynamic and highly successful department that consistently achieves outstanding results with pupils from a range of starting points. We have transformed our curriculum in recent years and we continually develop new materials and synthesise new approaches to teaching and learning. Pupils study an array of challenging texts and critical materials ranging from the origins of tragedy, through the Romantics and Mary Shelley, to contemporary non-fiction such as Eddo-Lodge and Harari. At A Level, we are currently introducing a new unit of coursework influenced by post-colonial theory to complement the study of canonical writers. Each unit and assessment point is carefully planned and sequenced for progress, where vocabulary lists, knowledge trackers and diagnostic questions are used to maximise learning. Homework is planned in advance, and offers pupils a range of creative, research and consolidation tasks. KS3 pupils also enjoy a fortnightly lesson in a well-stocked Library where they participate in the Renaissance Reading programme. The friendly, collegiate and supportive atmosphere contributes to a hardworking and harmonious department.  

There is onsite car parking and the school is in close proximity to public transport (Train, tube and bus routes).
