South Hampstead High School, the 2022 Independent Girls’ School of the Year, is seeking to appoint an energetic and inspirational teacher to join our strong and vigorous English Department as maternity cover.

As Teacher of English, you will teach across the whole school, up to and including Sixth Form. You will plan, prepare and deliver stimulating English lessons, engaging an audience of highly motivated and talented pupils, working to meet their educational needs. Additional duties will include an active involvement in our excellent extra- curricular programmes, playing a major role in the life of the school.

You will be a highly capable, enthusiastic and committed individual, with a demonstrable passion for the English language and literature. Although you will ideally be a qualified teacher with a proven track record, we welcome applications from ECTs, graduates and those looking to begin a career in teaching. A flexible and personable individual, you will be capable of working effectively as part of a team.

English at South Hampstead High School

The English department is lively, active and held in high regard by pupils and staff. English is always one of the most popular A-Level subjects chosen and the pupils are enthused by advanced subject knowledge.

At GCSE, we cover Picnic at Hanging Rock, Othello, A Streetcar Named Desire and a poetry anthology, whilst the exciting A Level literature provision includes works from authors such as T.S. Eliot, John Milton and Sylvia Plath.

There are seven staff in the English Department; four are full-time and three are part- time, all of whom work together to foster a warm, supportive environment.
