Job overview

Winner of an SSAT Educational Outcomes Award for 2015, The Macclesfield Academy is a successful and expanding 11-16 school serving a diverse community in South Macclesfield.    The Academy opened in 2011 with a mission to make a distinctive contribution to the provision of secondary education in Macclesfield by becoming an outstanding small school characterised by:

• a welcoming community,

• a personalised curriculum and

• an enriched experience for all our students.

The Academy has become the school of choice for many Macclesfield families and was oversubscribed in 2017 and 2018. Such is the popularity of the Academy that we have agreed to increase our intake (for one year only) from 120 to 144 in September 2019.  In a recent parental survey, 96% of parents said they would recommend the Academy to a friend as a good school for their son or daughter.

We require for 1st September 2019:

We are looking to appoint a high quality English teacher who is fully committed to the aims and values of the Academy, who will make an excellent form tutor and who will contribute to our enrichment programme.  This post could represent an excellent opportunity for a Newly Qualified Teacher but we would also welcome applications from more experienced colleagues.  Given that teaching the transition group will be a key part of this role, it might suit a colleague with primary experience.

Our pay policy makes it clear that we do not automatically replicate the salaries that teachers have earned in previous posts and we expect to appoint to M1-M6 in the first instance.  However, in the case of a teacher with a proven track record of exam success or other exceptional qualities, we would be prepared to appoint onto the Upper Pay Spine. If we make a part time appointment there may be less involvement with the transition group.

Our Acting Subject Leader for English, Dr Julie Skarratt, will be happy to answer any questions you may have. She can be contacted on julie.skarratt@macclesfieldacademy.org

We expect to make a permanent appointment but may make a fixed term appointment in the first instance pending further analysis of our staffing needs.

Application is by the Academy or TES standard application form and should include a supporting statement demonstrating how you meet the requirements for the post. The deadline for applications is 9.00am on Monday 8th July 2019.

Interviews to be held on Wednesday 10th July 2019.

Applications for this post must be accompanied by the Equal Opportunities and Confidential Information forms and sent by email only to: TMArecruitment@macclesfieldacademy.org .

Curricula vitae or open testimonials will not be considered.

Further details are available on the Academy website at www.macclesfieldacademy.org.
