Job overview

‘Leaders have created a culture in which the school’s values of kindness, decency and a strong work ethic are lived out by pupils and staff’ Ofsted July 2023

We are looking to appoint a Teacher of English to join our experienced and highly successful curriculum team. The successful candidate will have a passion for working with children and young people, be creative, dynamic, enthusiastic, hardworking and resilient. Our school is high-performing and we are ambitious for every single one of our pupils.

Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), achieve well across the curriculum and exceptionally in subjects such as English and Mathematics.’ Ofsted July 2023

This opportunity is open to professionals at whatever stage in their career, whether you are looking for a first appointment, a new challenge or a fresh start. In return, you will join a happy and harmonious school community that prides itself on valuing its best asset, the staff. The work-life balance of colleagues is taken very seriously by the Headteacher and both staff turn-over and absence are very low. This is a great place to work!

‘Leaders at all levels act with integrity. They place pupils’ interests at the centre of their decision-making. Leaders consider the impact of their decisions on staff well-being. Staff recognise leaders’ consideration and feel valued in their roles.’ Ofsted July 2023

We do not take recruitment lightly. Choosing a teacher to be responsible for so many student outcomes is taken very seriously and not ever done for the sake of filling a gap. It is really equally important to us that the right candidate chooses our school because they believe in what we are trying to achieve and the way in which we do this. The job is never done and every year we have different students arriving all with their unique personalities, aspirations and desires. We celebrate this and do whatever it takes to make sure they have the best possible memories of school but also the right academic profile.

The school is deceptively accessible within the Yorkshire and Humberside area, with colleagues travelling from as far afield as Grimsby, Leeds, York and Wakefield. The school is set in the village of Auckley and benefits from extensive grounds. New College Doncaster is situated next door where many of our young people progress to post-16.

We do encourage those interested in joining us to visit the school to get a feel for our culture and ethos. Application forms can be found on the TES vacancies section and the school website together with further information. Please contact HR Manager, Paula Kynman, 01302 770579, pky@thehayfieldschool.co.uk.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An Enhanced DBS check will be required for this post. We aim for diversity within our workforce.

We reserve the right to close advertisements early therefore the advertisement will close either on the advertised date or on the day of a decision to close early.

Our aim as a school is to provide our students with a wide range of academic, creative and sporting opportunities which will enable them to develop into well rounded individuals who achieve academic success as well as the personal attributes required for the challenges of the 21st century.

School Ethos and Values

We are unashamedly traditional in the values we hold most dear: a strong work ethic; kindness; decency. These values are central to our culture and ethos, and professionals work hard to instil these simple values into our young people in order to prepare them for adulthood and the world of work. Our aim is to create confident individuals, life-long learners and responsible citizens who move to the next stage in their life having:

  • Fulfilled their academic potential
  • Developed essential personal skills and attributes
  • Grown resilience to face down challenges and setbacks

Our Curriculum Intent

We are really proud of our very carefully planned curriculum and believe that it goes over and above the statutory National Curriculum requirements.  We constantly reflect and review subject content and the GCSE offer taking into consideration how we can best prepare students both academically and personally for our ever-changing world.  It is vitally important to us that students have a broad experience and enjoy all their subjects experiencing rich opportunities to explore and develop their personalities.  Visit our website to find out more.
