Location: Essex

Salary: TPR/UPR

Contract type: Full Time / Part Time – Permanent

Closing date:       Sunday 2nd June 2024

Interview date:    TBC

Start date:            September 2024

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and dynamic teacher to join our very successful and supportive English Faculty.

The post would suit an ECT English teacher or an experienced teacher ready to take their classroom teaching to the next level. There may also be opportunities to teach Media Studies.

We seek inspirational teachers with the talent and drive to join our strong and successful team. We believe our success as a faculty is directly linked to the quality of our staff, and we offer excellent professional development and support. We would love to hear from you if you are a dynamic and creative individual who makes learning fun and challenging, and who is looking to join a supportive and enthusiastic team in beautiful rural surroundings.

We are an inclusive school where every student is valued and has the opportunity to shine. We currently have 1294 pupils at the school. Helena Romanes is a thriving, all-through school for children aged 4-18, situated in the beautiful North Essex countryside. It has good communications to London and the South East, and it is approximately 7 miles from Stansted Airport.

This is an exciting time to join the school:

●       In September 2021, the school was designated as an all-through school for pupils aged 4-18 years and we are now only one of two all-through schools in Essex. We believe this puts us in a position to offer a unique educational experience to both students and staff who work at the school.

●       We are working with the Department of Education to build a new, state-of-the-art school building on Stortford Road, Great Dunmow, which is set to open to the primary phase in 2025 and the secondary and sixth form phase in 2026.

●       We are a member of the successful Saffron Academy Trust, a highly effective local trust led by Caroline Derbyshire, CEO. As members of the trust, we receive a comprehensive package of school improvement and there is regular networking and support between the trust’s primary and secondary schools.

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

The school reserves the right to interview candidates before the published closing date.

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.

While academic achievement is of crucial importance, we also ensure that we focus effectively on developing our pupils’ personal, social and creative skills. Our aim is that pupils leave Helena Romanes as successful, confident and considerate young adults.

We are very proud of our pupils. They are superb ambassadors for our school when they represent us locally, nationally and internationally, participating in our many and varied extra-curricular activities.

At Helena Romanes, we have a large team of well-qualified, dedicated staff who focus on supporting pupils’ progress and well-being. We work closely with parents, carers and the wider community to ensure we provide a well-coordinated approach to our pupils’ learning and development.
