The Person

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and passionate Teacher of English to join our thriving department. The successful candidate will be required to teach English Language and Literature to GCSE.

Primarily, we require a teacher who can build excellent relationships with students. We are also seeking to appoint somebody with a good sense of humour and one who enjoys teamwork. These are hugely important qualities in terms of collaborative working, but also in getting the very best out of our students.

We are looking for a person who has initiative and can help drive our vision forward even more and work with us on our journey to becoming outstanding; enabling our students to foster an appreciation of language and literature.

Subject knowledge is very important, as is an interest in the latest developments in curriculum changes and GCSE specifications. The successful candidate will thoroughly enjoy teaching their subject and understand the importance of English in contributing to our students’ cultural capital.

A strong commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school is essential.

What we can offer

In return, we offer a welcoming, focused learning environment, working with students who are typically above national average attainment at start point in Year 7. The department is very diverse and experienced and we have a highly committed team who always ‘go the extra mile’ for the school and community. As a department we are outward-facing and passionate about being at the cutting edge of research and developments in our subject; the school has a strong belief in professional development and offers excellent opportunities. This will prepare the successful candidate for further leadership as well as developing subject knowledge and pedagogy.

Standards of behaviour are very good. We achieve this because of strong teamwork and a cohesive work ethic in pastoral management; we do not tolerate poor choices without proportionate consequences. As a new member of staff, you will find the school to be an extremely welcoming environment to teach in.

This is a superb opportunity to come and join a school where you will succeed and see our students make great progress over their time with us. Please have a look at the vacancies page on our website to get a snapshot of our school.

Salendine Nook High School is a mixed, comprehensive, non-denominational secondary 11-16 school situated in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.

Attainment in entry is higher than average in all year groups. Over half of the students on roll come to us with high prior attainment based upon Key Stage 2 SATs. Our students generally arrive with high levels of literacy and numeracy. This means that expectations are high in terms of expected progress over the five years of secondary education. The parent body is also generally very supportive. We are a larger than average secondary school providing approximately 1350 places for students. The school is oversubscribed in all year groups.

The school converted to academy status in February 2012. It is sponsored by a single-academy trust called the Salendine Nook Academy Trust.
